How do you guys feel about him? He had a good combine and showed just as well in his pro day.

I'd be interested in him with our 6th round pick. I think he has a motor and could play himself into a position on the team.

Or maybe I'm just partial to LBs who have more heart than god given talent lol.

I like him but Im not sure in what round. The 6th seems like a little late from what I saw but I need to go back and look.

i kinda think that this is a huge part of being a great ILB. the heart and instincts need to be top notch to thrive at this position!!! i have been around some undersized ILBs throughout my years, and one of them may have been the best I've played with. he was thick but maybe 5'9'' and like 150. Within him though was the best instincts, and the love of the game, and this kid will come at you and hit.... if you wanted sure tackler, it was him. he always had over 100 tackles a year (and thats in like an 8 game season).

No matter what size you play at, you need to have the instincts and the love, the heart, the motor, to be able to play that position well.

I posted about him earlier this month.

Gil Brandt had this to say about his pro day:
Inside linebacker Ben Heeney (6-foot 1/8, 231 pounds) had a good pro day workout, capping what has been an impressive draft season. Heeney was a standout at the East-West Shrine Game practices.

Heeney followed that up by posting fantastic numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine. He was among the top performers in his position group in the 40-yard dash, and he posted the best time among linebackers in the 20-yard short shuttle, 60-yard shuttle and three-cone drill. His 6.68-second three-cone time is unheard of for a player at his position (in fact, it was the fifth-best posted by a linebacker at the combine since 2006). At his pro day, Heeney had 19 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, which matched the total he posted in Indianapolis.

We need a definite starter at mike linebacker who is a tackling machine. My inclination is to invest a high Draft pick (ie 1st or 2nd) to make sure that we have a decent possible solution for this problem. Heeney may be good but as a possible 6th round pick, he's a luxury backup option unless we just get really lucky like Zach Thomas.

I like him as a depth guy later in the draft…He's a great athlete…but Im not sure he has great instincts. He seems to guess a ton but with a late round pick I think you roll the dice easily. Probably a 5th rounder or so…if nothing else you hopefully get some depth and a stud ST player

I don't think doubling up on LBs when your team only has 5 on the roster to begin with would be considered a luxury...at this point it's more necessity.

I agree here, but not having a third rounder I think we really need to draft that starting ILB, and not worry on doubling up at the position in the draft.

Heeney is no 6th rd pick. McKinney, Kendricks, Perryman, are the only ILB I have ahead of Heeney. Kendricks is the only 3 down LB I would take before Heeney. Perryman and McKinney feel more 3-4 to me.

I feel guys like Taiwan Jones and Jake Ryan and a couple others I can't recall the names right now, will go before Heeney

i like Taiwan Jones.... and yes I have him above Heeney, and think he could be a solid 4th-5th round pick if needed

I drafted him #99 overall at the top of the 4th to Oakland in the FHVIP Mock, based on his scouting report, team need, and supply vs demand at the 4-3 ILB position. Maybe he is the next Borland or ZT? I would consider him after round 2 if we don't take Kendricks.

With Heeney, I worry that he'll be swallowed up. People are talking about moving Shaq Thompson to SS, and I think it's a bad idea for Thompson, but it'd make sense for Heeney. He has the speed and feet to play the position, and I don't think he has the size to play LB.

I Think he could survive at linebacker in the NFL. That's assuming we have a beast next to Suh and he can play clean most of the time.

Today's NFL is all about the 230 lb linebacker. Those 250 pounders are becoming relics.
