With the Fins need for an MLB why is there no talk about this guy with the Fins?

He has great size and athleticism and is a run stuffing monster.

Is his weakness in coverage the knock on him or does he not fit the scheme?

Thanks

He looked like the typical player that has been getting by on his athleticism alone in the college ranks. The combine was not very kind to him

We've talked about him a lot.

I was high on him at first, not so much anymore. If I really wanted McKinney I'd just go ahead and throw some $ at Brandon Spikes instead, which is something I'm still not against.

We need a natural football player with top-tier instincts. McKinney lacks that and struggles in space. I think his best position will end up being on the outside honestly.

Thanks guys.

I figured it was something along those lines.

In the games I've seen of his, he just always seems to do less than you expect. You're waiting for this athletic monster to take over the box and lay waste to offensive schemes, but he seems quite peripheral to big chunks of games.

That doesn't bode well for the pros, imo. I like backers who are super productive in college, because a lot of being LB is about wanting to stop a guy more than he wants to get past you. I never have that sense with McKinney.

I think he's exactly what Miami is looking for in a MLB (not that he's perfect), and I think they'd jump all over him at 47.

I can definitely see this.

Think he probably goes late 1st/early 2nd. He's a great fit for a 3-4 team, and he has more versatility within that scheme. GB at the end of RD 1 makes sense to me. New Orleans could also use the pick they got from Seattle. But it wouldn't be crazy for him to fall to 47.

Lacks top tier instincts for the position, but will thump between the tackles. He's a Brandon Spikes caliber player (in terms of skill-set, talent level, and how they're utilized). He's a little bit more explosive than Spikes though. 2nd round grade.

much like j-off said, and I've mentioned in the past, for what we are looking for in an MLB he fits. We showed interest in him early, dunno if there's still interest though

I know people want to say "he's just like Misi" but that's just lazy evaluating. While they both have similar limitations, McKinney's aren't as extreme. They have similar strengths as well, but McKinney's strength's are stronger than Misi's.

Agreed, and I think McKinney has that frame this team wants at MLB. You'd love him to be all that he was hyped as early in the season, and he's not that, but I think he's being underrated by some at this point. I think you have him as the 28th player in the draft, and I have him in a similar range.

That sounds about right. I know his change of direction isn't ideal, but with his length he can really clog throwing lanes for quarterbacks in underneath coverage.

mckinneys best asset is his poa play and short yardage fill...if miami does go this route they obviously prefer measurables and take on ability way way over instincts...and they will continue to have some similar issues they have now although mckinneys a better fit than misi at mike...misis been miscast since the day they made that move

this would help i'd say but it doesnt fix miamis biggest issue at lb...lack of instincts in the entire core pretty much
