Bench Lucas thread

As a follow-up, dolphan1 is right......we only ran the ball 23 times. Not nearly enough in a hostile environ for a "running" team with a struggling QB. Ricky should have had 25 carries on his own.

Wanny would start Dickerson if he thought it gave him the best chance to win. I'm not apologizing for Lucas, he's had one horrible game off the charts, one terrible though game one against GB, and one mediocre one (last night). But no way is Sage ready to start.

Maybe Fin Fans were too spoiled by Marino to realize that there's a big learning curve with QB's. Lucas played 9 games several years ago but is still a very inexperienced QB.

I can't wait for Fiedler to come back (and praying it's not like the rust he had last time he had a layoff) but benching Lucas is cutting your nose to spite your face. Trying to bestow starting status on Sage b/c he threw away a pass is like saying Robert Edwards should be starting over Ricky b/c his ypc avg last night was higher.

I agree there is a learning curve for a QB but let's not forget 1 thing.

Tom Brady

He hadn't thrown too many passes in the NFL either and all he did was win the Super Bowl. But I see the point you're trying to make, It's a hard learning curve but I say start Sage and see what happens from there.

But even Brady struggled this year. And last year he was more of a caretaker with a running game, a terrific defense, an innovative defensive coach, and great special teams (it only seems like they all used to be Fins).

It's funny at the beginning of the year everyone wanted Lucas in cause he performed better during the pre-season. Then we get Lucas in there, and he stinks up the joint. So now we are calling for Sage.

I really don't think the problem will resolve itself until Jay gets back under center, and tosses his first TD pass.

Hope you're wrong Ad, only b/c I hope we turn it around b4 then, but you're probably close. Question is how many fair weather finphans close the garage with the engine running if Fiedler struggles upon his return? Who do you call for then? Aikman? Dickerson? Damon Huard? David Woodley?

Bottom line is it can not get any worse. Ray is horrible. What's the worst Sage can do? Keep losing.

My point is that we make the statement "we need to win now" but the coaches are willing to stand pat with Lucas regardless of winning or losing. I think they are sending the wrong message to the team. They need to get resourceful and explore ALL your weapons. Sage, Dickenson? ANYONE!!!

Three games is not a slip up, it is a F*ck up, and we need to shake it up!!!! If we lose two more we won;t see the playoffs.

RAY MUST GO! RAY MUST GO! RAY MUST GO! RAY MUST GO!

I definitely could see Lucas starting the Buffalo game, as we were ALL optimistic over what he could do with the offense...

I could see him starting the Green Bay game, even after his abysmal performance against Buffalo...because we're all thinking, "Hey, he's better than that...that must have been some kind of first game jitters"

I could EVEN see him starting the Jets game after throwing a costly boneheaded interception against the Packers...because, well, he did tend to be victimized by either a struggling offensive line or receivers dropping or popping up passes.

BUT, there is NO REASON, I mean, absolutely NONE...for him to start against Baltimore. We CAN'T slip down to 5-5! It would be disasterous for us considering the situation with the rest of the division. We already KNOW that Lucas will suck and lose against the Baltimore Ravens. Why not try Sage Rosenfels, dumb down the offense just a little bit for him, and let him do things RIGHT for a change???? He may not be good, but as you may have noticed there's a lot of quarterbacks in this league that win games. In a game where 3rd stringers like Mark Bulger, Kelly Holcombe, Rodney Peete, and Todd Bouman can rally the troops and run an offense with some SEMBLANCE of efficiency, we've got a guy in Ray Lucas who, it turns out, isn't able to AT ALL. So letting a 3rd string guy like Sage take over absolutely, positively, CANNOT hurt us.

All you need to know about Ray Lucas is in the numbers. 9 turnovers in 3 games...and every single one of them was absolutely HIS FAULT. 4 times he threw it into the hands of defenders against the Jets. FOUR FVCKING TIMES! I don't care if they didn't come down with any of them! GET HIM ON THE BENCH! This if FVCKING RIDICULOUS!

I liked Dave Wannstedt....UNTIL NOW. If he starts Lucas this Sunday, OFF WITH DAVE WANNSTEDT's HEAD!

That's the silliest post I have ever read...

Sad enough, I would rather Lucas start against Baltimore than Sage. Sage's first 3 throws looked even worse.

That would be like saying...

... Lucas is a HOF QB because of his GREAT 2002 pre-season!

CK is right on the money. We already know that Lucas will screw up and the Ravens will kill us. Knowing that why not try Anything different. This guy is on a 3 second delay before he can make a decision, of course the O line looks bad, he locks on to recievers and has the slowest release in the history of organized Football. Whan he finally runs he's a second late. He's a head case and the team looks horrible with him at the helm. Right after the Bills game he needed to be removed and someone else put in. There was a bye week so a new guy ( Aikman?) had ample time to get ready. Wanny is too stubborn for his own good, that's a bad flaw for a Head Coach to have. Give up on this loser. Cut him and do something different. It might work, we already know that Lucas hasn't worked and won't work in the future. The fans hate the guy and I'm pretty sure most of the team is fed up! This guy is unwatchable! The Jets should have picked 3 or 4 passes. C'mon Wanny, wake up and dump this piece of ****!
