Quarterback Craig Krenzel was waived Monday by the Cincinnati Bengals, who have spent the offseason adding quarterbacks while Carson Palmer recovers from reconstructive knee surgery.
Krenzel led Ohio State to the national championship in 2002. The Bears drafted him in the fifth round, and he started five games for Chicago in 2004. The Bengals claimed him off waivers to be their No. 3 quarterback last June, but he didn't appear in a game last season.
Palmer badly damaged his left knee during the Bengals' playoff loss to Pittsburgh. Cincinnati have signed free-agent quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Doug Johnson to one-year contracts, knowing that Palmer might not be ready for the start of the season.
Also Monday, the Bengals waived undrafted rookie tight end Ryan Hamby from Ohio State. Hamby signed with Cincinnati on May 5.
