The Lions reportedly weren’t interested in signing free-agent LeCharles Bentley. Apparently, they weren’t interested in signing Bentley because he wasn’t interested in accepting the contract that the team wanted him to sign.
A league source tells us that the Lions actually offered Bentley a one-year deal worth in excess of $1 million, and that Bentley passed.
As we understand it, several teams are interested in Bentley, but the prevailing attitude is that he should sign a one-year deal for relatively low money in order to prove that he’s healthy. Bentley is looking for more.

I know Big O has been saying that Bentley would be an awesome addition to the Dolphins, but not for the money he wants. Apparently he wants starter money, and the guy is to much of a risk, as big a risk as Terry Glenn. Penington's deal is an incentive base deal that can be worth 11.5 mill, and he was not injure or coming of a career trenting injurie. No way we sign a guy that a few months ago ran a 40 in the 6.00s. I say develope Murphy, keep Mckinney and Derilek and sign whatever lineman Dallas lets go off.

My point exactly. Big O keeps saying Lecharles would come in a unseat Satele. He is a little worried of the trouble Satele was having with Ferguson, but isn't that what you expect from a second year C going against a premier NT. I think the extra reps is gonna help Satele out this season tremendously. No way you take Satele away from the C position.

I think everyone is fine with Samson at C, the kid has all the potential to be a pro-bowler. Ferguson love the kid, I think Big O is just caught in the Big Name Bentley use to be. I was gonna call him and remind the Bentley ran a 40 in the 6.0s and that he had been operated four times to fix his knee.

Heh, that's an interesting way to put that Detroit wasn't interested in signing him. They were not interested in signing him because Bentley's not interested in signing the contracted they were interested in him signing. Let's hope he's interested in signing a contract our front office is interested to offer, as long as it's not unreasonable. If he's not interested, screw that, I'm not interested either.

I don't understand Big O these days. That dude used to have this gigantic mancrush on Samson, and now he wants an overrated free agent with only one healthy knee to come in and take his spot. I don't think so. Samson will be a fine C. Screw Bentley.

if bentley can pass a physical he's worth a mil to be our top center and guard backup and maybe take the reins from thomas if he needs more seasoning.

trey darilek plays into this also.

I think with Dolad Thomas showing everyone the RG position is no longer an area of concern, it a little less likey we sign Bently. Unless Miami decides Bently is a better option then McKinney, I don't see us making this move. Infact I saw something a few day's ago about the Pats and the depth they have along the Oline in camp right now and some won't make it to the final 53. From my understanding, BB is concerned about letting anyone go cause they are that good. The report said the Pats are a little deeper at WR and they believe whomever is squeezed out of NE could start anywhere in the league. I think Miami will be keeping a close on on both these positions in NE.

After the surgeries Bentley has had, it sounds like NFL teams are saying, "Show us a return to form before we show you the money." He doesn't really have a strong argument, unless a team loses a starter and caves. I don't care if he comes here if the team thinks he can help, but they need to be smart with the contract.

We need a reliable backup OT more than anything, unless Daren Heerspink suddenly shows he belongs. He only played RT in college, so wasn't even the best OT that Portland State had and was only 2nd team All Big Sky, so wasn't even one of the 2 best in a lower level conference. If Ike Ndukwe ever has to play tackle for us in the regular season, we're in trouble with a capital T. :boohoo:
Darilek and McKinney will be decent inside reserves.
Wish we would have signed Jason Fabini for depth when he was available. He's shown in the preseason that he can still play.

We might wait to see if Dallas releases Pat Mcquistan or we could pick an OT from another team. The depth of the o-line will probbly come through the waiver wire.

Donald Thomas isn't going anywhere. Why sign Bentley and waste the development of Thomas unless he gets hurt. Donald more than held his own against Tampa Bay and he is very quick for a big man. The online looked good for the first game and my biggest concern was the WR's.

You guys forget hat this might be the way that Ireland and Parcells do business. Dallas line has a bunch of no names as their Backups. I think this is the way we will go. A bunch of young guys you can develope. Darilek plays every position along the line, Mckinney plays C/G. Murphy is developing and who knows maybe they like what they see in Heerspink.
