Berger Expected To Play Sunday

Anyone know much about him?

never heard of him. But he must have shown something is practice to come out of nowhere like that

typical Saban fashion. Out pops a guy he picks up and suddenly there he is! Seems Saban goes by injuries, when a guy goes down, in comes the new guy.

Someone said on here when he was first picked up that he'd see time before the end of the year...good call by them....I guess the Panthers hated to lose this guy

yes because all players who have every played for Carolina suck as much as Howard.

Does this meen we are beter at center but worse at guard? Or worse at both center and guard? It seems like I remeber some talk about the coaches realy liking Rex at center but maby put him at guard because it was beter to have the Seth-Rex combo than Rex-somone else at guard combo. Am I rembering this right?

Just brought back bad memories of Panthers staff going on about how great Howard was and how sorry they were to lose him. Hope the guys a stud and opens holes the size of the Holland tunnel against the JETS.

OVERVIEW
Berger is regarded as the premier trap blocker in the small college ranks. He was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2003 and 2004. The first player in school history to ever participate in the NFL Scouting Combine, he also was the first Husky to ever earn American Football Coaches Association All-America honors.
Berger was an All-Western Waterways Activities Conference selection and team captain as a senior at Newaygo (Mich.) High School. The two-way lineman registered 238 tackles and an interception in two seasons of varsity football. He also earned Academic all-state honorable mention as a senior.

Berger would earn Academic All-GLIAC honors in each of his four seasons at Michigan Tech. He also garnered CoSIDA Academic all-district honors in his final two seasons. He started three games at offensive left tackle in 2001. He shifted to right tackle in 2002, starting eight contests. He went on to earn All-America honors in both 2003 and 2004 at the right tackle position.

ANALYSIS
Positives: Superb position finesse-type blocker whose quickness off the snap and trap-blocking ability could see him shift inside at the pro level … Comes off the ball decisively, using that quickness to easily gain initial position … Uses his arms well to wall-off and is a very aggressive finisher … Has the agility and play anticipation skills to pull and trap … Has the speed to contain linebackers up field … Shows the nimble feet to engage and sustain contact on the move … Keeps his arms extended properly in pass protection and has the mobility and balance to adjust to the edge rush.
Negatives Not explosive in his blocks, rather preferring to finesse his defender … Needs to be more physical on initial contact … Has problems adjusting to the pass rusher's counter moves … Has to improve his hand punch technique and re-direct better when performing in-line blocking … Can be rocked back by the surge, as he tends to lean into the more physical defenders.

INJURY REPORT
No injuries reported.

AGILITY
Combine: 5.18 in the 40-yard dash … 3.04 20-yard dash … 1.84 10-yard dash … 4.62 20-yard shuttle … 7.77 three-cone drill … 27-inch vertical jump … 8-foot broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times … 32 1/8-inch arm length … 9-inch hands.

Class: 5Sr
School: Michigan Tech
Conference: GLIAC
Ht., Wt.: 6-5.5, 303
40 Time: 5.24

BIO: Named GLIAC Offensive Lineman of the Year the past two seasons, winning All-Conference honors both years. Also an All-America as a senior. Started eight games at right tackle during his sophomore campaign. All-Academic selection who is a mechanical engineer major.

POSITIVES: Athletic with good size and growth potential. Strong at the point, displays good movement skills and dominant on a small school level. Technically sound and has the frame to add bulk.

NEGATIVES: Still raw and needs repetition. Only average playing strength for his size.

ANALYSIS: An intelligent lineman who gives top effort, Berger offers upside for the next level at either tackle or guard. Must add bulk to his frame and improve his playing strength but a solid developmental prospect.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Hopefully he can make something out of his PT that he will be getting. I wish him luck and I hope he does well.

Haha, I don't even know what this guy looks like. Seems like a good project. No injuries, which is a good thing.

The OL is in for some serious changes during the offseason. As many as three starters may not be here next year.

They might as well start the upgrade process right now.
