"I gave them my verbal already and I'm a man of my word," Bess said.

Over the next three years, Bess ascended the program's receiving charts, helped the Warriors reach unprecedented heights and ultimately worked his way into the NFL.

Now preparing for his second season with the Miami Dolphins, Bess still reflects on the twists that led him to Hawaii and the abiding impact of that decision.

"I think about that all the time," Bess said. "I'm a true believer that everything happens for a reason.
Pretty cool article on Bess from a local Hawaii perspective.

I stayed up late many weekends to watch Hawaii playing football so I could see Chang throwing the ball and Bess catching it. I couldn't believe Bess went un-drafted. It just shows you that if you are willing to put in the effort and have the desire that good things can come your way. Hopefully Bess will have even more opportunities this year.

Yeah man. We were pretty disappointed (and shocked) over here when he went undrafted (he's kind of a local hero in Hawaii). I was so stoked when we picked him up in Miami though. That was a really happy day for me.

I'll tell you what else this shows me... that even some of the best GMs in this league don't have a clue.
I don't understand how one could watch Bess' tapes and not think that he would become a solid WR in the NFL. As happy as I am that we signed him, its still ridiculous to think that even we didn't use a 7th on him.
