A free-agent rookie from Hawaii, Bess finished sixth in the AFC and 10th overall in punt returns with an 11-yard average. He proved a significant upgrade over fellow receiver Ted Ginn Jr., who averaged just 7.8 yards on seven returns.

"And we haven't seen his best yet," special teams coach John Bonamego said of Bess. "He's improved and he'll continue to improve."
A solidly built 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, Bess, 23, brings similar attributes to the job as Reggie Bush, whom Bonamego had in his last coaching stop at New Orleans before coming to Miami last season.

"Davone's a guy who's built low to the ground, who's got very good initial quickness, and he's strong," Bonamego said after one of the Dolphins' final practices before their summer break. "For a guy who's not really big, he's built more like a running back. He's not easy to knock off his feet."

Great article! Though it does say he didn't fumble a punt return. Didn't he fumble on a return against SD? Or was that a kickoff?

I like Bess i hope has a great year . would it be safe to say that our wr corp will shape out something like this.
Ginn #1spot
Camarillo #2
Bess #3
Turner #4

For the poster who posted the starting line up- it may shape up something like this, based on what I've been hearing.
1. Ted Ginn Jr. #19
2. Davone Bess #15
3. Anthony Armstrong #84?
4. Greg Camarillo #83

I think injuries will set back Camarillo a bit regardless of what the coaches are saying. He wasn't very fast to begin with so now that he's torn up his knee, he may never regain that lost speed. I'm really pulling for this Armstrong guy though, I hope he can make it big, like a Wes Welker or our very own Greg Camarillo.

I think Armstrong is a guy who really loses a lot once the pads come on. I think he will most likely be religated to the practice squad again this year.

I like Bess a lot. He is very dynamic. Everytime he has the ball I get excited. Quick and shifty. I see Armstrong on the PS also, too many guys on the team with the same mold, unless he can really set himself apart... I see a guy like Pat Turner making the team and used in 3rd down and Goal line situ. Big target with good hands. Cant wait till the pads go on!

Armstrong will end up behind Patrick Turner before we play a real game, Camarillo may beat out Bess as #2 because it seems as though he is healthy again

I was reading the Ronnie Brown article where he says he thought he was fully recovered from his ACL last year but after looking at his tape he sees he isn't. I don't think I would be surprised if Camarillo is only 80% of what he was this year. I hope I'm wrong though and he's fully recovered.

i don't think Armstrong will beat out London, Hartline and Turner either. he might make it as sixth receiver over London, if he can show he can play on ST. if not, we're going to keep London IMO.

Kind of like Ginn. I always here Ginn is doing ammazing and performing like a pro bowler in OTA's. Yet when the pads come on, I don't here a thing. Hopefully, this year will be the year he can finally show us why he was drafted #9...

Ginn #1
Turner will end up#2 sometime this season and hold it down for the remainder of the year.
Bess #3
Camarillo will end up being 4th.

I dont think the above order really matters. It will yes, for starting purposes.

But I am pretty sure there will be many sets with different players in it, to take advantage of a certain situation or part of the field.

Example.

Standard 3 man set Ginn,Turn,Bess
Alternate 3 man set Ginn,Turner, Cam
Aternate (2) 3 man set Tuner, Cam, Bess
Third and Short from inside the 50 Turn & Bess
Second and short from inside the 50 Turner,Bess,Camarillo
Goaline, Turner, Fasano, Haynos maybe even camarillo

You might even see a set with just Bess and Ginn it on 1st and long, but Ginn and Tuner on another 1st and long.

We are going to show alot of fronts and alot of diffrent players from all these fronts. Right now since we dont have a true #1 I really dont think it matters anymore.

Good post!

and I agree with the fact that with this mess of receivers we have and no one really a front runner for #1 makes this more plausible.

I would like to see Turner in the starting line up. I'm expecting problems with him of coarse, but after watching as much tape on him as I can find he looks like the type of player that could very well emerge into something special.

He workes his arms well in his route running, seems to break down well for such a long guy and catches very well.

I saw on u-tube a play where he cracks down and the safety was missing so he had to take on a linebacker and didn't even break stride. He did not bad with the block!.....Probably the most impressive piece I found on him.

not sure, but he is notorious for not caTching the ball and losing 15-20 yards of field position for us. I agree get out of the way of the ball when tacklers are close, however, a good half the time would be tacklers were like 15 yards away when Bess decided not to field punts. god that ticked me off...

you field one with those guys bearing down on you.....it's a little bit scary when you
're unsure of how close the persuit is coming.

I'd rather see him call fair catch than get his bell rung and fumble.
