I agree we need a NT, but it certainly isn't our biggest need. I'm a big Soliai supporter, and I think if ferg decides to hang it up, we either sign a midlevel FA, or draft someone to push Soliai for playing time.. Whoever we grab it needs to be relatively early (rounds 3-6) because Soliai, cannot play everydown, but he can be a starter and a solid NT.
I think the dolphins wont put Suh, McCoy, etc on their watch list because we wont be in the market that early, unless Cody really impresses our scouts.
So I'm looking in the mid to late rounds for prospects and these are a few of the guys i like..
Boo Robinson - Wake Forest, 6'2 330lbs, in the mold of Vince Wilfork, is a monster in the run game, but still needs to develop, could step in and spell Soliai immediatly IMO. We can grab him in the late 2nd or mid 3rd round range.
Marvin Austin - N. Carolina 6'3 305, I think the FO will opt for a 320+ guy, but Marvin could max out somewhere around 315, and with his speed (4.8) he'd be the perfect complement to Soliai. Put Marvin on pasing downs, since Soliai doesn't help much there. His stock may rise into the first round if he runs that 4.8, I do not seeing him slip past early 2nd round, any defensive alignment could use a guy with this skill.
Torrell Troup - UCF 6'3 330- His presence makes UCF tough to run up the middle on, He's always getting deep penetration, and is clearly the strongest guy in the trenches each week I tune in to watch my alma mater. Solid 3-4NT prospect, will take 2-3 years to acheive great success, needs time to develop like Soliai has recieved.
there are not alot of options in the draft this year. finding a guy thats 6'2 350 is hard. Secretely I hope Ireland and Parcells know something about Terrence Cody and take him in the first round. But He would have to become a top 3 NT for that to be worth the pick.
There are alot more of those body types around the NFL, maybe we can trade one of our 6th's or 7th's like we did for Tony McDaniel.
