Best Damn Sports (Yesterday) dont know if you guys caught it. .

They had Rodney Peete on and what I believe was 2 regulars on the show. Anyway, with all the negative articles coming out about Marino NOT being a great QB, it went a little different. To make a long story short Rodney Peete was saying there was no way Dan shouldn't be considered top 3 QB of all time behind Montana and a toss up between Elway/Marino. The other hosts seemed to agree but there was one guy (black dude, bald head, usually covers NBA) was saying that Dan was a great QB, but not a champion. Either way they pretty much all agreed he was atleast a top 3/5 QB of all time, but not a champion. All in all it was a good episode..but why is it Dan is always brought into the fold about a ring more than any other great player out there that never got one? Just seems kind of silly.
 
cuz marino is the best passer in the history of the game and he should have a ring to along with the arm
 
I forgot to mention the one guy pointed out something that every football person should know. He said that unfortunately football is the ultimate TEAM sport and Marino didn't have a good enough team..obviously.

Exactly aside from the QB including the punter and kicker there are 23 other STARTING PLAYERS on the team. However when it comes to the best QB argument most everyone forgets this and only think about the QB when it comes to championships. These people are ignorant. Montana and Brady sure played good defense during their superbowl seasons.:shakeno:

The quarterback position is different than all others and accordingly is judged so.
 
I normally dont like J. Salley, but I think he summed it up about Marino.

Marino is a WINNER (no doubt); one of the top 3 QB's-IMHO #2 behind Montana, and thats debatable; but his line sums it up.

MARINO IS A PROVEN WINNER- BUT NOT A CHAMPION

That is unfortunate, but its the reality....

I posted this on a separate thread, the Fins organization has SUCKED with drafting and caused Marino a handful of rings by selecting the wrong players and not surrounding Dan with a strong supporting cast. When people blame Montana for having Jerry or Elway having Terrel, well that just means their organization WAS BETTER at what they're supposed to do; the DOLPHINS organization has been below par with getting players- IMHO, they FAILED DAN.

He is without a doubt the best quarterback to play the game.
 
Don't remember what channel it was on, but there was a show a few days ago, "top 10 sports figures without a ring" Marino was #2. Barry Bonds was #1.

solid post. and while Marino is my favorite player of all time, the statement "MARINO IS A PROVEN WINNER- BUT NOT A CHAMPION" is true. I can take off my Marino colored glasses to recognize that.

I'll put them back on for this though....Marino, even if not on the football field, is a champion as a person.

EDIT: I didn't see Mister's post up there until I re-read the thread..I agree wholeheartedly.

Thats bull****, Bonds is an ******* steroid pumping cheater. He doesn't even deserved to be mentioned in the list.

And with no offensive line the QB has no chance at succeeding. The position may be different than all others but it doesnt make the other positions less important to the success of the team. Without good play at the other positions no team can have success.
