Wow. There are a lot of pissed off Dolfans out there. A lot of people seem to think that passing up Brady Quinn was a huge mistake. But I know nineteen people who would disagree:
1. The Oakland Raiders
2. The Detroit Lions
3. The Tampa Bay Bucs
4. The Arizona Cardinals
5. The Washington Redskins
6. The Minnesota Vikings
7. The Atlanta Falcons
8. The Houston Oilers
9. The San Francisco 49ers
10. The Buffalo Bills
11. The St. Louis Rams
12. The NY Jets
13. The Pittsburgh Steelers
14. The Green Bay Packers
15. The Denver Broncos
16. The Cincinnati Bengals
17. The Tennessee Titans
18. The NY Giants
19. The Jacksonville Jaguars
There is only one rule when it comes to selecting a player in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Take the best player available. Well, if Brady Quinn was the BPA, then why did 19 teams pass on him? And don't tell me because they already have a QB. Would you pass on Peyton Manning because you already have Chad Pennington?
Think about it...
If Quinn was the BPA, then why did Tampa Bay pick Gaines Adams?
If Quinn was the BPA, then why did Buffalo pick Marshawn Lynch?
If Quinn was the BPA, then why did the Jets pick Darrelle Revis?
If Quinn was the BPA, then why did Jacksonville pick Reggie Nelson?
If Brady Quinn is the next Tom Brady, why would Green Bay pick Justin Harrell instead?
Not only did we pass on Quinn, but we passed on Drew Stanton, too. Maybe, just maybe, John Beck is pretty good.
Cam Cameron turned Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, and Gus Frerotte into Pro Bowl players. Gus Frerotte!!! Randy Mueller has drafted several QBs that have gone on to have a lot of success in the NFL. Our brand new QB Coach, Terry Shea, worked with Brady Quinn prior to the draft, so he knows everything there is to know about Brady Quinn. And we still passed.
If that doesn't tell you all you need to know, then you will never be convinced.
We'll either look back on this and say Cameron, Mueller, and Shea were geniuses or pulled one of the biggest bone-headed maneuvers ever in the draft.
As for Ginn, it's hard not to like the guy. Check out his highlights on YouTube...

I've never seen anything like it. If you look up the word "speed" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of Ted Ginn, Jr.
So then I thought, "Okay, well he's probably like a T.O. or Randy Moss and has a big ego and bad attitude." Wrong. Big-time character guy. Hard-worker. Team leader. He's a major, major upgrade over Welker as far as returning kicks. And I loved Welker. Speed vs heart. We'll see what wins.
They compare Ginn to Dante Hall and Desmond Howard. But they also compare him to Devin Hester. Maybe he won't ever be a #1 WR. But just sending Ginn on a fly pattern should free up Chambers to make more plays.
The more I think about the pick, the more I like it. They called Ginn a "reach" but I don't buy into that. To me, a "reach" is taking a guy who would have been there in the next round. Ginn might have been picked later in the 1st but he would have been gone by the time we picked in the 2nd.
Ginn vs Quinn. Only time will tell.
Right now, it looks like we might have made a huge mistake. But after last season, and the 1995 season when we had all those #1 picks as starters, I've learned my lesson. My expectations are neither positive or negative. I'm just going to wait and see.
