Thought this would be interesting to put together and look at. With all the negativity I see on these boards about our "worst drafts" ever, thought it would be nice to put together our greatest draft selections by round.

Grated we've had a ton of misses, but we've had our fair share of hits as well. Amazing how many "late round gems" we found.

we had a CB J. B. Brown in the 12th rd once , he was really good. 1989 draft

Round 4....Curtis Johnson & Larry Ball....starters on the no-name defense that won championships and were 1 ranked in the league.

Eric Laakso was a solid tackle.

We also drafted Joe Theisman in the 4th round.

Randy McMichael

We've had quite a few good players drafted in the 4th round, whom I've listed below:

1970 - Curtis Johnson (Defensive Back) - 22 career INTs

1978 - Gerald Small (Defensive Back) - 24 career INTs

1982 - Charlie Bowser (Linebacker) - 20 career sacks

1985 - Jeff Dellenbach (Center) - Was a good starter and valuable/versatile reserve for the Dolphins from 1985-1993

1987 - Troy Stradford (Running Back) - 1987 Offensive Rookie of the Year showed promise, but was derailed by injuries.

1990 - Scott Mitchell (QB) - Started off the 1993 season like gangbusters in relief of Dan Marino, who ruptured his Achilles Tendon. Showed enough to have the Detroit Lions sign him to a huge contract (for the time). Had some big games, but despite being a decent starter, was considered a bit of a disappointment.

1992 - Dwight Hollier (Linebacker) - Valuable starter and reserve

1995 - Pete Mitchell (Tight End/H-Back) - Never played a down for Miami as he was foolishly traded to Jacksonville, where he went on to catch 279 passes and 15 TDs.

1998 - Lorenzo Brommell (Defensive End) - Started the 1998 year off like gangbusters and set the Miami rookie sack record. Valuable role player/starter in Miami's excellent defensive line of the late 1990s/early 2000s.

2004 - Randy McMichael (Tight End) - The best draft pick out of Wannstedt's time with Miami. The best Tight End Miami has had since Keith Jackson. During his 10 years in the NFL, he caught 426 passes and 24 TDs.

2007 - Paul Soliai (Defensive Tackle) - One of the very few bright spots in the horrid 2007 draft. Not a big stats guy, Soliai was an immovable force at nose tackle when Miami moved to a 3-4 defense.

2009 - Brian Hartline (Wide Receiver) - Was a player that Miami was seemingly always trying to upgrade from, despite catching 344 passes and 14 TDs. Made some big plays during his time in Miami, but typically struggled getting separation from good corners. Had a monster game against Arizona on 9/30/12 when he set the Dolphins receiving yardage for a single game record with 253 yards.

2012 - Lamar Miller (Running Back) - Explosive back that made some of the longest runs in Dolphins' History. Left as a free agent to Houston in 2016.

Let's hope we can add a few names to this list with the 2017 draft! :brewskis: :hump:

Excluding first round picks, and specifically Dan Marino. I'd say Jason Taylor is arguably the most impressive selection we've made. Along with Dwight Stephenson those two were amazing value. I'd put Zach Thomas right behind them. I'm 36 so I don't have the proper prospective on the guys from those 70's teams.

13 is in a class of his own, obviously.

Mark Clayton in the 8th is hard to beat.
