Because this team won't always miss the playoffs.

Think of the teams that have star runners injured or banged up heading into the playoffs:

Corey Dillon
Julius Jones
Duce Staley
LaDanian Tomlinson

Ricky and Ronnie look VERY fresh by contrast. I think it creates a mismatch come playoff time when you can field two fresh running backs (or even just one if one of them is injured late in the season) against tired and depleted defenses.

The RB position in the NFL has become a two-man job IMO. There's just too much hitting on RBs in the league to expect one guy to be able to do it through the season and the playoffs.

Well I just love listening to Saban praise Ricky. He says Ricky works as hard as any player on the team. I really hate that Ricky had a brain fart about a year ago,but It could be worse. I think the depth at running back will prolong Ronnies career. I would like to see a couple of 150 - 170 yrd games out of Ronnie. I love Sabans thinking.

Very good point. Both are more likely to make it to the post season and, in the event that there is a injury, we still have a stud RB. Another point to remember is that it is costing us next to nothing to have Ricky for the next couple of years. How many other teams can say that about a RB of Ricky's caliber?

You'll get no arguement from me on this.

One thing I see that MUST happen is compromise between our OC and Nick. Linehams, philosophy is pass to set up the run or maybe just pass. Personally, I think that is a backwards way to look at it.

With the two Gems we have at running back, I believe the foundation of our offense should be from our strength, the running game.

Yeah, I never thought of that. That's a good point. I like the idea of keeping Ricky, but I still want to see Ronnie Brown carring the full load. It would be nice to see RB getting 20+ carries a game. That is one of the reasons I want RW to go, but you do have a good point.

With the potentual we have in the backfield it is not inconceivable that we won't have two 1K rushers in the same season.

That's a very good the for the Miami Dolphins because it would mean we OWN the clock.

I see a bright future for the team if they will only gear-up to their strength.

i just don't think Ricky's heart is into anymore... maybe this year he impressed people with his work ethic... Because he had to.. next few years to come, i just don't see it.. if we can get a 3rd round pick for ricky, i think you gotta make that trade.

also, Edge has gotten an over abundance of carries this year, and he seems fine.

The reason to trade RW would be if the offer is high enough to offset the loss of a very good backup RB. IMO that would take a 2nd or maybe a high 3rd. I don't know what Saban's opinion is but there has been media speculation that Saban would trade RW for a 2nd.

are you kidding? Of course we trade Ricky for a 2nd. Surtain went for a 2nd. No one trades players for firsts anymore. Edge and Alexander were both open for a first... that makes Ricky for a second a no-brainer.

But no one will pay a second for RW, so it's moot.

While I think it's unlikely, it's what we would ask for. The Eagles asked for and got a 2nd for AJ. If a team wants a RB, they could do worse than a young probowler with a low salary. If they're convinced that his drug problems and commitment issues are a thing of the past a team might take that. I wouldn't but stranger things have happened in the past.

Nice perspective...

I think his heart's in it, but only as a complementary player like he is now. I don't think he wants a spotlight job. And as little as he cares about money, I think he might've made a "deal" with Saban to be the complementary RB at the salary he's currently making.

It fits Ricky in many ways -- he's in the spotlight less and doesn't have to carry a team on his shoulders, and he's still making good money for as little as he cares about it. This is another reason why we could see him here for a long time IMO.

No chance is trqade value is any better than a 3rd. Money is not the problem, a team could structure his $$$ with behavior and playing incentives.

It's the fact that he might not show up. You did it once you'lle do it again? Thats what every team is worried about.

You cannot use the AJ Feeley trade as precedent. It was unusual in its time.

I would wager a lot, a LOT, of money that RW does not garner more than a 3rd (at very best).

He's a great RB, but for the 100,000,000th time, he has more value to us than he does to any other team. Plus, he's happy here, not being the center of attention all the time. The 2RB system is best for RW's mental and physical health.

And what about RW's career hasn't been unusual? LOL

Seriously, I don't expect teams to be beating own our door to offer a 2nd. It's the value that I feel the Dolphins will ask (Although a 3rd might work too). My position was never that it was likely, just that stranger things have happened. And RW pretty much said he'd be happier in California. So, if SF or even Arizona came asking I think RW would do everything possible to let them know he'd be happy to go.
