It seems like all of a sudden our Kick and Punt returner is a hot topic... So, whom would be the best bet in the draft that will be available as a returner???

I could't even begin to guess who'll be available when the 'Fins start looking to fill a PR role. It would have to be somewhere in the 5th round or later since 3rd and 4th look like they're reserved for an O-lineman and a LB but who knows.

Oh well, I'll leave this question up to the draft geeks to answer. :D

Lito Sheppard is the best one I've actually watched. he is great with the ball in his hands, but he will be LONG GONE by our pick. Freddie Milons and Cliff Russell are other names to look out for, MIlons being the more likely candidate on day 2.

Sam Simmons of Northwestern is another name to look out for, we are working him out tomorrow? some day anyway.

Randle-El can return well, as can Andre Davis, but I suspect both will be off the board by 90.....Randle-El may be there....

Depends on what you want speed or quickness

If you want quickness go with

Freddie Milons, Alabama, WR 5 -9 ½ 193lbs, 4.56 40
Pros: A playmaker with excellent footwork and change of direction skills. Runs crisp routes and shows good explosion in and out of cuts. Elusive after the catch
Cons: Undersized and project as an outside receiver. Shows more quickness than pure speed.

If you want speed then

Daryl Jones, U of Miami, WR 6-1 190lbs, 4.45 40
Pros: Has good size, quickness and speed. Explodes off the line and in and out of his cuts. He’s a solid route runner with reliable hands.
Cons: Is not very durable and tens to get nicked up

If it were me making the selection I would take Milons. Jones has Yatil Green written all over him!

Jones is projected as a 3rd rounder and Milons a 4th.

Daryl Jones is only 5'9 180......but is fast. I'd definately go with Milons, seems like a Desmond Howard type, more quick than fast, but elusive and sees the blocks develope well.

Jones is definately not projected as a day 1 prospect....I haven't seen one publication rank him as one. He is very small and fast, but not overly fast. And like you mentioned has a history of injury.

I wouldn't touch him till the 6th.

Cliff Russell is fast! He wouldn't be a bad pick at #90, if he is around. I think Randle-El is a 4th-5th rounder, but thats just my guess.

I was wondering if we could trade our 5th and 3rd rounder for a 2nd next year.

here are some intresting prospects for returners:

Andre Goodman- 5-10 183 4.36 CB
Mike Echols- 5-9 178 4.37 CB
Herb Haygood- 5-11 1/2 189 4.43 WR
Dedrick DeWalt- 5-9 191 4.36 WR

I know of a name that won't be there after lets say about the 10-12 pick.......Phillip Buchanon.

I think a more realistic pic for Miami would be a late rounder......maybe
a Tim Carter, Daryl Jones, but one of my favs would be Andre Davis 6-1/194 good size with outstanding speed in the 40: 4.35. He also had 3 Td's returning punts...........ahhh what do I know anyway

OZZY!

Dude, when is OZ Fest coming to FL? I dig your show "The Osbournes", but you put up with too much **** from your wife and kids. They take your credit cards, constantly buy more dogs and cats against your wishes, and treat you like a brain fried alcoholic uncle. What's up with that? You're still the Master of Metal man!

Arron Locket! Would be available in the 6th round, would never produce other than returning punts, but that is all we need. He is 5'7 and super quick. K state over used him last year, trying to make him the focal point of their passing game, causeing his PR yards to shrink, but he could be a great PR with no risk.

The problem with selecting a player ike Lockett is that you don't want too many "specialists" on your team. If a WR or 2 get injured then that "specialist" is going to see the field. We already have McGarrahan, Gamble, Perry as specialists that take up gameday roster spots, adding another is playing with fire when it comes to injury.

I'd rather have a solid return man capable of turning into a reliable WR than a guy who is a good returner but has no shot at producing anything else.

Andre Davis is long gone Ozzy, but it is nice to dream! hehe I'd say Tim Carter will be gone by 90 as well. Russell again, probobly gone by #90. If Milons gets into the 6th round or so, I'd take a shot at him.

BUT.........I definately don't reach for a guy, and at all costs stay away from "Specialists"

I am going to stick with my crazy prediction that Randle-El will be taken by St. Louis in the second round, they love players who can do trick plays and he will be a master at it.

Yeah Davis is projected to be an early second round pick, but his speed is really what gets him that high!

Another Wr I really, really like is Kahlil Hill at 6-2/199 he is a big guy that runs great routes and is a return specialist on both Kickoffs, and Punts. Another Orande type that doubles as a return man. He should be there at 90, maybe even into day two.

Here is what Pro Football Weekly had to say about him...............

Pro Footbal Weekly
Notes: Father, J.D., was a great receiver at Arizona State and the Bills' first-round pick (and a very early one) in 1971. Both father and son made their second seasons their best after down rookie years. Kahlil redshirted in 1997. He started every game in '98, when he caught 35 passes for 432 yards and two touchdowns and returned 18 kickoffs for 465 yards and one touchdown and 10 punts for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Returned both a kickoff (88 yards) and punt (62 yards) for scores in the '98 opener vs. Central Michigan. Was suspended in the fall of '99 for undisclosed reasons. Came back in 2000 to play in all 12 games and start 10. Caught 58-619-5 and returned 16 punts for 153 yards and 25 kickoffs for 680 yards and one touchdown. In '01, Hill caught 53-792-8 and returned 19 punts for 226 yards and 12 kickoffs for 313 yards. Won the Mosi Tatupu special-teams award in '01. Positives: Nice size. Very athletic. Fine balance, body control and jumping ability. Very well-coordinated. Quicker than fast but adjusts to the deep ball well and makes plays down the field. Good open-field runner and kickoff and punt returner. Can run excellent routes and get separation. Had a strong East-West Shrine game after standing out all week in practices as the best receiver on the field. Negatives: Was always a star and comes across as a pampered and spoiled player at times. Needs to improve his work habits, concentration and attention to detail. Rounds off too many of his pass routes. Lets you know when he is not the primary receiver. Lacks pure speed. Summary: A big, gifted athlete and receiver with return ability who can become a fine NFL player if he grows up and shows he will pay the price. However, if he tries to continue to play and practice the way he did in college, he will not realize his potential.
