IMO is that we got the cornerstones of our offense and defense for the next 5-8 years:

Ronnie Brown -- he will only get better. I think we're looking at potentially one of the most dominant running backs in the game, and with league MVP-type ability. Once we're able to build the offense around him, he'll make the rest of the players on offense a lot better too.

Channing Crowder -- it won't be long before we see him at middle linebacker, leading the defense. Saban's defense requires a very smart "quarterback" who knows the defensive playbook inside and out, can quickly recognize various offensive alignments, and can call defensive personnel adjustments on the fly. Crowder has not only that ability, but the ability to be a dominant player physically as well. Right now he's fairly raw, but I think we'll see him develop nicely into a Ray Lewis/Brian Urlacher-type player within two years.

In 2-3 years I think both of these guys will be perennial pro bowl-type players, and they play two of the most important positions on the field.

Saban has laid a VERY nice foundation with these guys. ;)

Travis Daniels played also decent

If Ronnie Brown get's over 1000 yards in his rookie year sharing the ball with a pro bowl back he should atleast be nominated into the pro bowl this year imo.

Right -- with Daniels I think we're looking at at least a starting CB or FS, possibly a great nickel DB if not a starter. I do think Daniels could develop into a CB of Sam Madison's caliber as well. If that happens we will have gotten potentially THREE pro-bowl players in one draft. And if Roth ever comes around it could be four.

Young O-line that is improving, young d-linemen waiting in the wings. Plug in a qb and some cbs, shore up some other positions, consider our cap space and the future looks bright for long term success.

I do think tho, that to have cornerstones on Offense and Defense you have to have at least 3 quality all pro types to make a team around. Just Ronnie and Crowder at the moment is not enough in my opinion. The next draft and FA will be huge for us. A quality QB, WR and an offensive Lineman on the O must be addressed. and long term replacements for Zach, Madison and JT is a must. If Crowder is to replace Zach then we have to get a quality OLB. Weve been spoilt on defense over the last few yrs with pro bowl players and not much showing on Offense. That has to change and a balance has to be met.

Right, we need to keep building, but I think it's pretty much a coup that we managed to get the cornerstones of both sides of the ball in Saban's first draft.

I agree with your post but the best thing about this year is not having to live with the Wanny/ Speilman stupidity.

P.S. sorry for bringing them up but whenever I see things about what we are doing well at I think of how much better we are doing because we don't have those 2 fools.

ricky and ronnie are amazing.

worst thing: gus was brought in here during offseason. worse move of saban's reign so far.

not to many free agents QB available b4 the season.

gus was the best qb who knew the offense we are running this season. in order to have a successful business you have to sell tickets... u think people are gunna come is a qb cleo lemon is playing? we dont want to be considered like the 4-12 team we were last year, he wants to win as many games as he can this season

The best thing about this year is we are only getting started. We have some peices in place, not we just need to bolster the O-line, add a QB, and tweak the defense over the next few years and we could be looking at a nice run. Brown and Crowder are a couple of nice peices on offense and defense respectively, and now all we have to do is keep going.
