FWIW, here's a list of players who have played well, and not so well, in our two preseason games. It is in order from PFF,

Best on O- Moore, Matthews, Gibson, Garner, Arkin. and the only ones above average. James leads the team in snaps with 80, and pass blocking.

Worst on O- Dallas, Fox, Colledge, Larson, Baker, Turner.

Best on D- Davis & Trusnick (tie) McCain, Fede, Starks, G Smith, Tripp, Jonson, Andrew Wilson, and Shelby.

Worst on D- Wheeer, Delmas, and Jimmy Wilson.

Best on Special Teams- M Thomas, Landry, Tripp, McCain, Jenkins, and Gillislee.

worst? Sturgis.

best, I'd have to say a tie for me between most of the WRs really showing their stuff and james showing he is the real deal and worth a 1st.

I'm really liking what I've seen of the additions on special teams. We were bad last year, and can see a big improvement, which could well make a difference in a few games. We don't pay enough attention to this part of the game, and I think the bad play cost us a couple of games last season. It really does matter.

Garrison Smith eh? Haven't really heard much about him or noticed him much...

Southbeach - Interesting that you included Jimmy Wilson in both the list of best Defensive and worst Defensive players. The Mike Evans missed tackle was awful but hopefully he learned from the mistake. Did you see many other significant errors? Every day I see Omar's expert commentary bluntly reminds us that Jimmy always makes plays.
Really interested to see how he goes at Safety. He has beaten the odds to make it in the NFL and is one of the team leaders.

They are not his list, but off of the PFF ranking after the first 2 games...and there are two Wilsons on the defense

Thanks. It is LB Andrew Wilson on the good, and Jimmy on the bad, made the correction. Other than the missed tackle, he has been OK in run support but, see him struggling in coverage as a starting safety. His strength is vs the slot. Hopefully making some plays will offset his overall coverage. JMO

Same here but, he has flashed late in games with 3 QB hurries, and average vs the run.

PFF fluff aside, I'd like to add Lamar Miller to the worst and remove College from the worst. College hasn't been great but he hasn't been bad either imo.

Colledge is subpar at run blocking. If our running game wants hope we need turner, pouncy and smith on the interior

Gibson , Matthews and Landry stand out on offense so far in the preseason. Both Matt and Ryan have looked good as well.
On defense Davis , Fede and the two new LB's have looked good. Grime allowed a TD catch but his hustle causing the fumble into the end zone made up for it.

On the bad list i've got Dallas Thomas who was owned , Wheeler and Ellerbe for the untimely penalties and Jimmy Wilson for the huge missed tackle.

Miller has not shown anything on the run with few carries but, thought he looked good as a receiver with few chances. I remember seeing a good play vs TB where he caused a missed tackle, and added some pretty good yardage. From what I've watched on Colledge, he has been average, not bad, and what I expected.

For me, the preseason games are mostly fluff, aside from special teams play, where we have improved.

Based on his play the last 2 years, hard to say what we have in Colledge. In 2012, he was VG on the pass, and almost as bad on the run. Last year, he was a little above average on the pass, and a little below on the run. In looking at him, game by game, he has had many up and down swings, which is unusual for a vet. For example, last season, he was good in the first hal, and not so good in the second half, kinda like the reverse of Clabo.

I'm looking for average overall, and Turner is not yet ready.

Turner needs to learn leverage. When leverage becomes like a 2nd nature to him instead of him having to really focus on using leverage he will be good. In the meantime I think he will be good for the running game and we can give him help on passing downs. I just think the upside of playing him in the running game outweighs the downside on the pass. But who knows Smith might need help on passing downs too. We can't have both guards as a liability in passing downs

This week's game will hopefully answer some questions but, we are playing Allas (no D).
