Recently I’ve been browsing several NFL teams fan boards and have had some good laughs about how biased fans can be in talking about their beloved Dolphins, Bills, Jets, Pats, etc... Unsurprisingly most fans are filled with hope and optimism this time a year with a few Debbie Downers sprinkled in to keep things balanced out. What makes things really exciting is when fans from other teams start positing on rival boards. Around here nothing get’s people blood boiling like a “Ronnie Brown is over-rated thread” or “Chad Henne is a bust tirade.” These types of discussions do raise and interesting question: How does a player become over or under rated? What the 4 letter network says? Draft position? Team philosophy/scheme? Talent level of surrounding players? How well they are liked by the local fan base? What local media outlets report? Stats? A combination of all of these factors? Chime in Dolfans.

Reality is our D will likely be top 10 and our O I think will be middle of the pack this year hovering around 15-18th, just a hunch and hopefully I'm wrong. The way ST looks we'll be about 28th and I think we win atleast 9 games. I just love the Matt Ryan lovers, Flacco, etc. Since when does 1 year make you some kind of All-Pro? I think we've seen it many times in the league. This applies to everyone, Long, etc. Although I think Long is a lot safer bet to continue his stride just due to all the stuff that comes with being a QB. If you watch ESPN you'll notice they're ready to make Sanchez the new face of the NFL once Brady leaves or whatever. I swear you'd think the kid has been playing for 3 years now and made the pro-bowl each of them. I love how ESPN will put so much stock into what this kid does, yet almost every other team it's "just preseason", yet when Sanchez leads a drive against 3rd stringers and 2nd string Baltimore D it's like angels have come down from heaven. It's a little pathetic.

Reality is we are a better team, but will probably have a worse record.

Simple and most likely correct. I've never been more excited about the future of this team. I see a solid foundation forming for the first time in a long time, rather than the usual plug and play approach we've used before.

I think it has to do with the fact that most fans just see ESPN highlights of players and don't actually follow them. They don't see the bad side of players. Even real fans though can be blinded by their own biases, such as the college a player came from or that they liked them in college.

The reality is, you can not predict how any team is going to perform during any season and therefore making suggestions about anything a player and/or team will accomplish prior to having full knowledge is just out of pure fun and excitement. Have a good time, cheer for your team, and stick behind them. No matter who is playing what position, if a team has chemistry, sometimes great things can happen.. That's why we all watch every game, every play, it's all part of being a fan.

Yeah, we weren't exactly lined up even with the rest of the AFC East teams at the starting line when Parcells took the reigns.

They've done a phenomenal job, but we are still playing catch up with the upper third of the NFL teams.

I think we can get a wildcard and do better in the playoffs than last year which is what really counts. I would not be surprised at all if Sporano manages to win like last year. I'm pulling for our fins all the way.

actually the very act of perceiving causes reality, fundamentally. when you don't look, reality is waves. when you do look 'it' behaves as particles. don't sweat it. no one understands how or why that is.

how do players become overrated or underrated?

Look no further than the pro bowl last year. Chad Pennington didn't make it. Brett Farve did. Look at the stats and records last year. Should tell you all you need to know.
