Big Ben's Rookie Season Compared to Dans

All year I've heard people compare Big Ben's rookie season to Dan's
rookie season,but to me they are nowhere close.Yes,Ben is and will
be a good QB,maybe a great one.Yes,he compiled alot of wins as a
rookie QB,but those wins were differant from Dan's.Ben was still asked
to be a caretaker for a good football team.He wasn't asked to win the
game.DC's gameplan against Pitt was stop the run and force Ben to
throw.All of us that remember that faithful day that Dan got the start
againt Buff.(even though it was a lost)after the game we set back and
said to ourselves,"WOW".Dan was asked to win the games,he never was
a caretaker,he was the weapon.The last thing DC's wanted to do was
force Dan to throw,they begged for running plays.Dan attacked defenses
like no one before,it was pure magic.I'm not downplaying what Ben did,but
to compare the two somewhat belittles Dan's performaces.It might be the
homer in me but no QB has or will make that kind of impact as a rookie.
 
Big Ben wasnt asked to help his team win he was asked to run and offensive power house of pure running attacks.Big Ben only was able to win those games because of good defense, a great running game and an awesome o-line. Without one of those Ben would have had alota more pressure especially if it was the running game or o-line(those too affected Miami's O all season for the worse).

The thing to remember, Dan said on Inside the NFL he likes Ben because he reminds him of himself . A pure compliment. Ben will do great things, but not in Pittburgh ( hint hint )

Ben had a great rookie season, but it does not equal Marino's rookie year IMO. Remember, the NFL players were so impressed by Marino he was voted into the Pro Bowl his rookie year, correct me if I'm mistaken but I don't think Ben was.
 
I seriously doubt that Big Ben will make a Super Bowl appearence and have over 5,000 passing yards in one season like Dan did in his first two years.
 
I agree that Dan was the greatest, but let's not undermine Ben. I think he's a wonderful quarterback and he did what was asked of him. He played well during most of the season, which obviously doesn't warrant comparison to Dan, but he does deserve credit, because he did play well.
 
Yes,dont get me wrong,I'd take Ben in a minute,i just think you'll never see a QB
have the impact Dan did his first 2 years.
 
this thread is a joke...........the bottom line is if what ben did was so easy why has not any other pedestrain QB or Dan Marino won that many games as a rookie? John Elway had a pretty good team as a rookie, so did montana and the manning colts. What Ben did was nothing short of a miracle and i think and a record that will last alo longer than any marino record. 15 wins is amazing.
 
Well Ben got his team to the AFC Championship game in his rookie year....Dan lost to the Seahawks. Before everyone gets all huffy, Marino`s the best of alltime in my book.

Did you see some of the interceptions Ben threw in the playoffs?
At one time Bill was thinking of benching Ben for Tommy,Shula never thought
of benching Dan.Bottom line is, when Pitt relide on Ben they lost.
 
Why does everyone have to compare stuff to Marino.......Ben had a greta rookie......just cause he didnt have a "Dan Marino" season doesnt mean you should try to down size Ben......Ben's no Marino, but who cares, he'll be a great QB.
 
yes............but winning and losing is the only stat that matters............15 wins as a rookie wont be beaten. Marino's individual stats wer nice but he would have traded them all to just win. Ben almost won the all.............was ben perfect no.........that is why they did not win the SB........but he was good enough to win 15 and not bad enough to lose anymore thna one game...........if you dont see that as impressive your nuts. Ben had a great rookie yr.
 
and the fins relyed on Dan for his whole career and lost too..........your point is moot. I think to have a QB like Dan and have nothing to show for it speaks volumes of the organization in that time frame.................
 
Regardless of what anyone wants to say - Ben R., hasn't even come close to Marino. By the end of Marino's rookie year, he was the man already. He had much better command of the passing game, greater individual confidence and had at least as strong an arm as Ben, yet, with a much quicker release. You could see BR was still very much like a "deer in the headlights" rookie in the playoffs. Marino never had that in his career - even when his body and arm completely left him.

I'm not trying to be biased. If a guy comes along who compares to Marino or any other great QB, I'm all for seeing it. But, there just is no comparison at this point.
