Talks between the Dolphins and free agent defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson have heated up, and the player's agent said Friday he hopes a deal can be struck.
If signed, Wilkinson would give Miami another starting-caliber tackle who can share time with Keith Traylor, who turns 37 on Sept. 3. Brig Owens, who represents Wilkinson, said he is talking only to the Dolphins.
''I wouldn't be talking [to Miami] if he didn't want to play,'' Owens said. ``We hope things can work out.''
Time is essential, as the Dolphins would like to have Wilkinson in camp within the next week. It seems clear Wilkinson wants to play for the Dolphins but isn't eager to toil in the South Florida heat during two-a-day practices.
