Miami's 16-12 win today over the terrible St. Louis Rams, ugly as it may be, was really a beautiful thing as the rest of the AFC East lost today.

The Jets were beaten soundly by the Broncos, 34-17 . This dropped the Jets to 8-4 and restored the Dolphins' control over their destiny regarding the division title and the playoffs.

Presuming that both the Dolphins and Jets win their next three games, the season finale will be for the AFC East title. If the Dolphins win that game, the two teams will finish with identical 11-5 records. In this event, the Dolphins would win the AFC East by virtue of their edge in common games played (third tiebreaker).

The Patriots were dominated at home today by the Steelers, 33-10. This drops the Pats to 7-5 and, most damaging of all, adds another critical loss to their conference record (now 5-5). If the Pats and Dolphins win out, the Dolphins would win the AFC East by virtue of their superior conference record (fourth tiebreaker).

The Pats are now all but eliminated from wild card contention. Indianapolis (8-4) owns a head-to-head tiebreaker, giving them a two game advantage. Baltimore (8-4) owns a two game lead in the Conference.

The Bills (6-6), 10-3 losers to the 49ers, are all but mathematically eliminated.

Yes, a good day indeed for our Miami Dolphins.

This was indeed a great day for us. It was a rainy, gloomy day here and I wasn't feeling very well so this is just what the doctor ordered. Who needs chicken soup when you have the NEW Miami Dolphins?

It was nice to see us get back to the running game a little more. It also was nice to see Fasano make a grab. We need to get him back into the action. I seriously don't know why we got away from him or the running game for so long. Anyways, a win is a win and we will take it. Now if only my brother will stop demanding I thank him for the Broncos beating the Jets and keeping our hopes alive.

If NE wins out, Jets win the next 3, and we somehow win out. It would be a THREE WAY tie for division at 11-5 (all 4-2). We'd have the conference tiebreaker over NE and NYJ if this were the case. But what is the second and third tiebreaker in a 3 way tie? And lets say NE doesn't win out, we somehow win the next 3, Jets win the next 3, and beat Jets Week 17. We'd both be 11-5. Tied head to head, 4-2 in division, What would be the next tiebreaker? We'd have NYJ beat in conference (I know for a fact) and common games too? I know we beat OAK and SD, they beat ARI. What is the third tiebreaker for a two way tie between division? Conference or common games? And what about the second and third tiebreaker within division? Yes, I do realize the odds of us winning out are highly unlikely (especially with Camarillo and Smiley done for the year)... but statistically, do we not CONTROL our own fate? We win the next 4, we win the AFC East?

Well being that we beat Oakland and Denver and the Jets didnt that helps :)

The Dolphins have defeated 3 of the 4 teams in the AFC west with just KC left on their schedule.

While the Jets have gone 1-3 versus those same teams the Dolphins have defeated. They could/should have been almost 0 for the division if it weren't for KC's lousy defense.

well I gotta give some props to the Rams...I mean they beat the Cowboys and Redskins and they put up a heck of a fight with us...they aren't as bad of a team as their record says they are, but I am very glad we pulled out the W! The Steelers and Broncos def helped us out! We aren't out of if just yet! Go Fins!

I was glad to see them win. I just wish ronnie had 100 yards rushing. He needs about 300+ to get 1000 is that too much to ask on top of it all?

Just as important as those losses by the Jets and Pats yesterday is their remaining schedules as well as the schedule for the Ravens.

Ravens remaining schedule: vs Redskins, vs Steelers, at Cowboys, vs Jaguars

Jets remaining schedule: at San Fran, vs Buffalo, at Seattle, vs Miami

Patriots remaining schedule: at Seattle, at Oakland, vs Arizona, at Bills

Of these, the Ravens have the toughest scheduled opponents, but the Jets and Pats, logistically, have tough schedules in that they travel west 2 of the next 4 weeks....the Pats having a slight edge because their games are back-to-back and they will most likely remain on the west coast.

All things considered, it is actually reasonable to think that the Dolphins not only could qualify for the playoffs, but that they could realistically win the division and even host a playoff game.

And on a side note, in years past, we would have found ways to give yesterday's game away. Look at our losses to Houston...an inferior team who always finds a way to beat us. The fact that we have won games while not playing particularly good football, I think, bodes well for us and shows the character of this team.
