This is a big if but.......do you think its possible that if ricky stays serious about playing football and plays for about another 5 seasons plus(maybe 4, most likely not) that he will make it to the hall of fame........if you think about it and if he is succesfull with us this season and we trade him away and he becomes productive as in like he did for us his first 2 seasons with us he could have the stats to make it.........this is such a big if because even if he stays serious he may never be that productive again....................thoughts:confused:(just kinda bored and want to start a convo to all the people sick of hearing about ricky:tongue: )

If he continues putting up 1300-1500 yards a season for another 5 years, it will be very possible. But, like you said, the biggest question is WILL HE STAY that long...

I don't think there's any question he's an elite talent so I think if he stays healthy and plays that long he'd have a good chance. Like you said, though, big if with that he'll play that long.

NO he has already stated that he will not play for longer than two years. There is no way he is going into the HOF because he is not going to put up hall of fame numbers because Saban is going to give ronnie as much playing time as he needs to develope meaning Ricky won't have 1500 yards per season. If he does tear it up when he gets a chance this season we may get some trade value out of him, but he will never produce like he did in the past.

I think the ultimate factor in becoming a hall of famer is longevity. How long he stays will define how he is remembered.

yeah thats one thing i forgot to mention, how he will be remembered, i think if he an change like is is "supposidly" doing then i think that helps

If he puts up #'s like that, he deserves it. I also think the voters will take his year off into account which may make it difficult for him to be voted in.

well thats kinda what i meant when i said after he gets traded becuase i know if he stayed here he would not have a chance, im not a great predictor so we'll see what happens

He would have to do something big like SB MVP to erase the predominant image of him as a quitter. I don't think putting up yards for five more years would be enough to convince the voters to put him in.

Didn't he say 2 seasons max?

Well that wasn't his exact words. He said something more along these lines: "I think I have 2 good years left in me and 4000 yards." That could either indicate that he intends on playing only two more years or that he is predicting his body will start wearing down after 2 years. And with his style of running, I can see where he is coming from. But I think most people agree that, in a round about way, he was saying he only wants to play 2 more years.

I don't think anybody should read that much into the 2 years comments. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ricky quit part of the way through the season or play for the better part of a decade longer. I think a lot will have to do with the shape he's in, his role, how he is received, and if he stays on the meds.

It is certainly possible he could be a hall of famer, but the year off is going to hurt because the football HOF is voted on by a small circle of people notoriously swayed by outside factors (see Art Monk and Michael Irvin, who seem to both be stuck in limbo because of opposition from small groups of detractors). It's not like baseball where stats ensure immortality.
