From my Blog:

After every loss, we Dolphin fans begin to feel like the Balloon Boy hiding in the basement as the season floats away - waiting for the embarrassing spectacle to cease. Like little Falcon Heene, some might vomit in disgust. Twice. On national television - all over one of Stephen Ross's newest celebrity owners. However, It is important to remember that nothing is ever as bad as it seems after a loss. And nothing is ever as good as it seems after a win.

The truth is, this team wasn't designed to make a huge playoff push this season. Yes, we all had high hopes coming off one of the best turnaround seasons in NFL history, but the original plan did not include a Super Bowl run this soon after the mess that was inherited. The original plan consisted of earning the title of "Contender" in 2010, not 2009. From much of what the team has displayed this season, it surely feels like they are on the way to accomplishing just that.

As evidenced by the losses this season, the Dolphins are not yet ready to hang with the elite. However, they are pretty damn close. A few Ted Ginn bobbled non-catches close. When you examine the tape, the 2-4 Dolphins were probably the most difficult wins for two currently undefeated teams.

Remember, Bill Parcells even mentioned during the offseason that the 2009 Dolphins would be better than 2008's squad, but would likely have a worse record. I think we all braced ourselves for that reality prior to the season, but of course, with every win and loss our perspective of expectations change. In all likelihood, this is a 7-9, 8-8 or 9-7 team with the schedule that they were handed.

However, all is not lost for this season. If the Dolphins manage to win the next two games - gargantuan divisional games - they have a real good shot at the playoffs. Even if they do get in, don't expect much. This team isn't ready yet.

Thank you Captain Obvious!

Good news? The plan is being fulfilled. Most of the major pieces that were needed during the post-Cameron overhaul of the Dolphins have been filled, and with a year of seasoning, they should be in prime position for a dominant season in 2010.

There are only a few pieces that need to be added in order for this to be accomplished, and most are glaringly obvious.

* A Starting Wide Receiver (that has hands, or some appendages capable of holding onto an oval object)
* A Safety (that can tackle and not get abused by Tight Ends)
* A pass catching Tight End (that doesn't fumble incessantly)
* A Nose Tackle (to take over for Big Ferg)
* An Inside Linebacker (that can actually touch the ball and cover a Tight End *by popular request)

Other than those positions listed above, only depth is truly needed to complete the team. With a very deep draft, this list can quite easily be fulfilled.

Even without the upgrades, there should be some addition by subtraction. You must consider that a Dolphins team without Ted Ginn on the roster is good for at least two more wins a year.

So, Dolphin fans, before you try to run the best thing to happen to this franchise since Shula out of town, please consider the plan and take note of the positive direction the team is taking toward fulfilling the plan.

As for this season?

SWEEP THE JETS!

And enjoy the ride...

I'm sick and tired of the "we're still a year away" excuse. It seems it's been that way for all 16 years I've been watching. Maybe we really are just a year away this time, but I'm really sick of this ****.

Ridiculous.

Your head is in the clouds and you like reading your own garbage.

A #1 WR, a pass catching TE, a safety upgrade AND a nose tackle (for a 3-4, not 5-2 which is what we played in the 2nd half, and a 3-4 nose tackle needs to be a damn, damn good football player)... That's all we need?

Never mind that we don't really have a #2 WR and that we need 2 safeties. Just your list is pretty much impossible to fill in a single season.

The Fins are built for 2013 if we draft a stud WR this coming draft. Otherwise, it's gonna be more of the same until Ricky gets injured/old and the rebuild cycle is rebooted.

Sorry when you don't put in ILB, you lose all credibility!

We have like three #2 WRs on the roster...

I was going to mention that, but I didn't feel like it was the most pressing. I think those 4 need to be addressed before ILB.

Who would be practice squad guys on the Bills.

??? Do you know who is putting the Defense together?

With an ILB, his defense cannot possibly succeed.

Who everyone on this forum were raving about for weeks... and then dump on for a week... and then begin the love threads again the following week.

This see-saw of a forum is comical.

I guess 4 games of solid TE play aren't enough of a pressing need to say ILB is a need.

Or having ILB's that avg from 3-5 tackles a game, with no game changing stats.

Chowder's 1 tackle game against INDY wasn't enough?

And yet I joined the forum today, so laying that at my feet is asinine.

The receiving corps has been bad since day 1. Taking Ginn was a dumb move and anyone that understands football knew it was a dumb move the second it was pulled.

What is amazing is that Parcells gave the loser a chance this season. Trading him away along with the rest of the receiving corps and picking up a bunch of guys off waivers and out of retirement would have been a better move.

imo we need a a couple peices #1 wr which i would have tryed to get b 4 trade dead line because it takes 2-3 years to become great when drafted and by then ricky will be gone and we prob have a rookie in there with ronnie and he will start loosing a step himself thats why i would have went after wr b 4 trade deadline #2 we need a LB who can stay up with the TEs we go up against . we have a saftey on the bench that we need to see if he is going to pan out in clemons if not draft one but as far as BIG glearing holes we dont have that many to address imo #1 wr and a LB THAT CAN COVER TEs but other than that everything else looked pretty good today . i just wished we hadent went away from the run (wildcat) game when we was up by 21 points today.:pop:

Contender in 2011. We have already drafted what looks to be Bell's replacement in Clemens but we still need the FS and a true #1 and an ILB that can actually tackle and assist in coverage. Ricky's replacement will also need to be drafted. This team will still be very young next year. Our schedule will be much more favorable (based on current team projections) because we play the NFC North and AFC North. Next year we will be a contender but I would look at 2011 to be a serious contender assuming they continue to progress as they have.

I dont believe Chris Clemons is a strong safety ...maybe culver

Hi.... Did you notice we have to rebuild our defense next year? Probably didn't, push that date back a bit. Make it 2011.
