Lots of disappointments this year:

1. Mike Mularkey - overthinks things. Needs to RUN THE FOOTBALL!!!
2. Hudson Houck - embarrassing amount of mistakes by his troops. Even though he has massive guys, they can't move people in the running game.
3. Daunte Culpepper - very distressing lack of ability to make his reads and progressions. Considering he has been around for 7 years this does not bode well.
4. LJ Shelton - why the dolphins went for this fat slob is so sad. They should have gone after Kevin Shaffer or drafted Marcus McNeill. Terrible football player.
5. Chris Chambers - something is very very wrong. Either he is not getting open, or the qb's cannot find him. CC has to take some blame though
6. Zach Thomas - he is in clear decline.
7. David Bowens - nada from him. ZIP, NADA. He's gone after this year.
8. Jason Allen - very slow to learn the defense. Still has potential, hopefully.
9. Travis Daniels - teams are picking on him. No excuses. If you're on the field, perform.
10. Vonnie Holliday - say goodbye. He has given us nothing
11. Randy McMike - finally a breakout yesterday. But he has been in a funk
12. Rex Hadnot - I had high hopes for him. He's getting manhandled in there.
13. Tavares Tillman - his "point and chase" defense is reminiscent of Don Bessilieu
14. Spragan - solid but again, no big plays. He'll be gone as well. We need athleticism at line backer in the worst way. Good team guy though

Pleasant Surprises or at least doing their job
1. Wes Welker - not fast but extremely quick and the heart of a lion
2. Joey Harrington - if he can curb his mistakes, could end up a Drew Brees type of player
3. Ronnie Brown - no help whatsoever, but a major talent
4. Vernon Carey - is turning into a very good player
5. Keith traylor and Dan Wilkinson - shutting down the run
6. Will Allen - excellent tackler. Solid in coverage
7. Andre Goodman - good cover guy
8. Channing Crowder - reluctantly put him here but we need some BIG PLAYS
9. Matt Roth - not a great athlete but improving
10. JT - declining but still making big plays. We need more like him

*Bottom line* way too many guys woefully underachieving. No wonder we're 1-4. This team needs a new offensive line philosophy and 2-3 new starters on the O line. Plus, we need ATHLETICISM on the front 7. The pedestrian athletes there lead to a paucity of big plays. We just don't have the athletes to make plays on D.

Some disagreements

David Bowens is losing time because we have stockpiled d-linemen, but he still does solid on ST.

I don't understand how anyone can say Harrington is a pleasant surprise, sure he looked better than Daunte, but look at what counts. His two picks led to 14 points, and the offense put up ten. Please, Joey has not shown anything more than Daunte other than he can avoid sacks.

JT is not on the decline, he has two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The way I see it, the defense has stepped up just like in 2004 and the offense let them down again.

I agree that Ronnie has not had a chance to run like we know he can, so I wouldn't say hes a disappointment, but he's not a pleasant surprise. He is averaging around 50 yards a game. 3 yards a carry doesn't cut it no matter what anyone says.

I got serverly depressed reading No. 6 in the dissapointments list because I'm afraid its true.

How is J.T. not on the decline? He dosen't make nearly as many plays as he did before. He is also a step slower and gets handled by tackles all day long. Still a good player just not the player he was before.

I agree. Is your name Jay Insignaris?

i dont understand why everyone is saying ZT is playing bad, b.c for one he leads the league in tackles with 50, and also has 5 passes defened which by the looks of it leads the top 30 tacklers

austin i feel ya...

-mm...show'im the gate...problem is, he changed the offense to his own...and that directly affects coach hud, who has to answer to the oc...mm's philosophy supersedes how the olc assignates the scheme...so it is what it is.
-zack/jt...too many defeats, too many years, too little time left, too high priced
-nick saban...great college coach, great organizer...good thinker...so-so db coach...marginal gm...dont think he'll finish his 5...

.

First, you can't blame Houck for the offensive play of the offensive line! How do you know Houck is not doing his best job ever in terms of coaching and preparation and that these guys simply stink? Or, how do you know that Mularkey's play calling is not also impacting the line play? It seems that teams are geared to stop the offense and have a pretty good idea what's coming.

The Oline simply stinks. The only way you can blame a coach for that is if you are in the meetings and you have proof to demonstrate Houck has clearly dropped the ball.

So ... patiently awaiting proof ...

As for Harrington, it's way too early to tell. To say that without the mistakes he'd be another Drew Brees begs the question! You could say that about every QB in the league. If anyone of them avoided critical mistakes, they could all be another Joe Montana. Not making mistakes is what separates great QB's from mediocre ones. Until Harrington proves that - and, I'm more than willing to give him a fair shot - one can't say he's a pleasant surprise with any rationale at this point.

Generally agree with your other observations. However, you did leave Jeremiah Bell off the list. He has played very well and should get more PT than he does.

Thanks Da Fins. I guess it was wishful thinking on Joey being a Brees type. But maybe he'll get in a groove with his new teammates. I will say that Brees has alot of moxie. Hopefully Joey can get there.

As for Houck, I guess I am so sick of the ridiculous amount of penalties. 1st and 20 and 1st and 15 is so hard to overcome. I was holding Houck accountable because he is the teacher. Something is not getting through, and the mistakes alone are killing drives.
