Biggest Dissapointment so far

I would have to say...

Just wanted to get some thoughts on who/what you guys would call our biggest dissapointment of camp thus far.

Now, I know that just because a guy, or a unit has not impressed to this point, it doesn't mean that he, or it, won't ever.

Some of the top candidates for this early title would be:

Sam Simmons. This guy has shown absolutely nothing to this point. He was talked about (well, perhaps, he talked about himself, in terms of being this great all around player, that could help the team in so many areas). Well, we're still waiting!

The collective play of the OL, which has caused zero improvement in our run game, so far.

Not having a healthy Chester, and Burnett, to add to the mix on the DL.

I won't touch the QB area, because that has been played to death. Just for the record, though, I think Fiedler will be fine. Well, pretty much as he has been during his time here. I do hope, however, that he will be more consistent, and cut way back on the turnovers.

So, I would have to say Simmons has been the most dissapointing, as of now. When he was picked, a lot of people just assumed, that he would be the answer to our return game, both punt, and kickoffs, but we have not seen it .

... the OL is the biggets disapointment to this point.

There are certainly some disappointments....

Mistakes, penalties, and a clearly visible lack of discipline on this team has me a bit worried....

Players who have been a disappointment IMO are as follows....

1. J. Fletcher - All talk, no game. This kid held out as a rookie, and on top of that, had the nerve to say how he was going to be the next D. Sanders.....So far, he's done nothing to earn a spot on this defense IMO.

2. B. Smith - We dumped All-Pro LT R. Webb for this guy??....So far, B. Smith hasn't shown anything close to what we were expecting when we gave him the position last year....

3. A. Mayes - He was looking great during mini-camp. He's still got solid skills, I just don't see him using them....

4. M. Royals - Can this guy punt or not??....His hang time stinks, and I've seen him shank more punts than M. Turk did all last season. I'm very concerned about the special teams right now....

5. R. Williams - Has shown nothing thus far. Very concerned.

6. DT - Health issues are a major concern right now. Both L. Chester and T. Bowens are limping around. Will these guys be able to stay healthy an entire season???.....Right now, I'd have to say no. If we don't improve at DT this season, teams are going to run us into the ground in a hurry.....Two games - 182 & 100+ on the ground against us. This isn't a good sign.....

The positives are there as well, but right now, there are more negatives than positives IMO.....Time will tell.

PHINZ RULE!!!

Williams has been great in practice. Who cares if he does nothing in two preseason games where he saw very little time.

give me some examples how fletcher has been bad please. granted he wasnt all world but its not like he has been burned recently. there are a few times last year like against the colts and such where he was burned bad but as far as this year, you cant really say he is awful. im just wondering why he was #1 on your list.

Richmond Webb when we released him was not an All-Pro LT anymore. He cost too much and Smith was playing just as well as him. Who knew he'd get hurt? It happens and you can't really predict for injuries.

well said Blitzkreig i compltetely agree with you..i share ur concerns..The only difference is that i'm not buying into R.W's performance...He's proven that he's a prime time player..All the rest is a concern..but remember this is preseason..

I'd agree with most of the things pointed out, but I think the play of the defensive line has been the most disappointing.

A couple of years ago no one ran up the middle on us and last year teams were pounding us. With DG gone I wanted to see the depth we have had at DT show up, but all I have seen are big holes in our defensive line.

Maybe Zach and a healthy Chester fix that. I sure hope so, because an inability to stop the run is a sure sign of a troubling season.

I'm more angry at J. Fletcher than anything....I guess.

He's a big talker, and he needs to back it up this year.....

When we drafted this kid, he was overflowing with confidence. He said how great he was going to be, how strong he is, and how he doesn't get injured......

Well, after a lengthy hold-out, he finally hit the field only to come up lame with hamstring problems. So much for the strong, injury free player we heard so much about....

He had the balls to compare himself to D. Sanders, and that really made me angry. He shouldn't sell something he doesn't have....

J. Fletcher was ranked one of the best DB's in the nation while in college, and I feel that his ego has surpassed his abilities thus far. If he's so good, where the hell is he???......

It's a tough transition from college to the pros, but he's not living up to expectations as far as I'm concerned.....

If he's truly all that he claims to be, then we should see it this season. I'll be watching him close. Right now, I have no clue as to what he offers us on defense.....

... I think he held out 2 days, the problem was he suffered a leg injury and was unable to recover the time he missed. By they way you don't expect a rookie DB in this secondary to light the world on fire in his rookies season. It's ppl like you that put un-warranted pressure on him that are the problem. You have short memories. It's like you think Madison and Surtain were all-pro's in their 1st year or something.

Fletcher's progression is right on schedule. In fact you could say it's ahead of schedule seeing as how he played so well when filled in for Surtain last year.
