The basic idea, as O'Brien explained, is to not just teach the quarterback, but to make sure that the coach knows the quarterback knows what to do. Essentially, the quarterback needs to stand in the meeting room, and play quarterback. He needs to be confronted with a defense, then point out the mike, make his reads, and call his cadence. The signal caller needs to walk through everything he would be doing if he were on the field. Then, the coach and the quarterback will know, they are on the same page.

That's what they make the college QB's do during the visits to teams before the draft.
Just like Gruden's QB camp but O'Brien keeps it going all year. I got a feeling most teams do that.

I'd kinda like to know that Tanny and Wallace are practicing their timing on deep balls.

Priority #1 for Tanny this offseason.

Dam I wanted to see more of that video. Let's hope Tannehill can light it up next year.

i am a huge football fan but something has always confused me..

why is calling out the mike LB such a big deal?
isn't it obvious who the mike is?
If so, why call it out? shouldn't the o-line know?
what responsibilities does the mike LB have?
is the mike constantly changing?

thanks for answering the questions ahead of time, it is truly something that has always had me wondering.

I think because the type of defensive formation the defense is in is based on where the Mike is. Just a guess, not a fact

I agree that it is some kind of assumption that based on who the mike is, it dictates not just who blocks what defensive player but also that it signifies some kind of route combination in a pass play.

the mlb dictates how they set there pass pro so they are able to account for all potential rushers (ie blitzing lbs/sec).

Its for matchup identification, to make sure everyone are on the same page as to who their assignements are per say... Visually it enables everyone to benchmark the middle of the defense and count inside out.
