I truly beleive that alot of us finfans seem to be confused with Bill Parcells statement when he says he does not want "thuggs" on this Dolphins team. I tend to believe this is a huge misconception about his statement by us finfans.

Every post I see where it includes a player (for example PacMan Jones or Chris Henry) whom is in (off the field) trouble, there seems to be another fan saying "we won't sign him because Parcells does not want thugs". Then you have the fans that don't understand why Ricky is still on the roster when Bill Parcells said he didn't want thuggs on the team.

In my opinion, most of us have misintrepeted that statement. I think Bill Parcells is a coach whom is willing to give any talented player a second chance. Bill Parcells is the kind of coach that is willing to take time with his players and turn their lives around, not only on, but off the football field as well. You've heard of alot of players stating how they gave it their all because they respected the tuna. I beleive Parcells has what it takes to get inside the players minds and turn their attitudes around. I think that is one of the reasons alot of players are willing to give it their all for parcells, because he believes in his players and in giving them a second chance. With that being said, I also believe Parcells will not hesitate to ax a thugg from his team, regardelss of all the talent in the world, simply because he contiues to get in trouble.

I'm glad Bill Parcells is open-minded, He's not quick to judge someone by their past. As finfans, we see a player with a history of, even just one, DUI and we consider him a "thugg". While Parcells seems him as a player until he does something stupid while on the team, then he considers them a thugg.

Anyway, just thought I'd provide my 2 cents for all those close-minded fans who tend to think we will not go after a player because he was in previous trouble.

You are right that Parcells has actually given chances to many players who have a checked past. Sometimes it's hard to tell what constitutes a thug in his book and what doesn't.

One of the big Parcells pet peeves is that he hates how many hangers on the average player has these days. Too many mouths whispering in a player's ear about what's best for him, what kind of stats he should be putting up, how the coaches aren't utilizing him, how the team is holding him back, etc. So I do think players who constantly get into trouble because they surround themselves with bad influences (Pac Man Jones), Parcells wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Players who got in trouble because they made a stupid or foolish personal decision, he might give another shot to. A guy who has incidents where he was running off his mouth and got on the bad side of his teammates might actually become one of his favorite players (Keyshawn, Bryan Cox).

Every person is different. You have to take each player and each human being on a case-by-case basis and then make a decision once all the facts are gathered.

I hate categorizing and labelling people.

Your post and the misconception of Bill Parcells:

HE IS NOT THE COACH!

Ricky's a dope head, not a thug! And yeah BP definitely seems that he'll give a person a 2nd chance. He doesn't put up w/crap, but doesn't ax the talent - look at Shockey & all their differences. That being said, he wouldn't bring anyone to the team he didn't think he could control, such as a Henry. And if you're not producing, or a non-starter & getting in crap off the field, you can bet you'll be shown the door real quick. Either way he will attract talent.

Go Fins.

he never said Bill Parcells was OUR coach, or THE coach. he just said Parcells is the KIND OF coach (because he was once a coach ya know).

and lets face it...do u really think Parcells is NOT gonna have something to do with our coaching? yes he is our VP, yes Sparano is our HC, but dont be surprised if u see a lot of plays being called by Parcells, or plays being made Parcells's way.

You people and Parcells. I believe Sparano is a puppet but not when it comes to on the field stuff.

Will Parcells be selling hot dogs in the stands too?

I mean the guy does everything.

When a miscreant like Henry has ALREADY been given what is it..3 chances by his existing team, I think however you interpret Tuna's definition of "thug" Henry, especially after the latest assault, is smack dab in the middle of it.

As far as Ricky's concerned, he may be a "flake" but he's far from a "thug"

Let me clarify.

Chris Henry and Adam Jones are wannabe thugs but still fall into the thug category.

Anyone who thinks we are interested in these two idiots are out of their freakin' minds!

Don't forget what folks used to say about Bryan Cox. Parcells picked him up with the Jets and he became one of Bills best friends. Its more about what you do when you get the second chance. Who your friends are, where you hang out and how you handle yourself after a mistake.

As said earlier Ricky is a pothead.. not a thugg... Henry is another matter. I think Parcells has patience for men who may have some inner termoil, or who are lead into temptation. But I don't think Parcells has any time for a repeat violator who can't stay out of jail. There are plenty of players.. like Chad Johnson or let's say Corey Dillon. May be malcontents, but off the filed keep their noses clean.
Let's be honest LT was no role model, but he also didn't get arrested 5 times in his first what... 2-3 years?
we can argue the term thugg forever.. I think he clearly means guys who may have off field issues, but at least ones that won't keep them off the field.

Why does no one mention Randy Starks when this topic comes up? The guy beat the **** out of a woman. Parcells was clearly full of **** when he said no thugs or hoodlums on the team. One of his first FA signings, is by definition, clearly a thug.

But, in no way does that mean a complete moron the likes of Pac Man or Chris Henry will be on our team. Henry I will almost guarentee will be suspended for all or most of next season, and dont be surprised to see Goodell throw something else on to Pac Man for the two pleas he copped POST- his last suspension. I wouldnt count on either guy being in the league anytime soon.

why us Ricky mentioned in the same sentence as a thug. Ricky is not a thug.

Ricky smoked some weed....lol

he doesnt punch people in the face, wave handguns, rob people......lol

If everyone who smoked weed is a thug, then 95% of all the population are thugs! I tried pot once at 18, Im a thug!!!!
