Bill Parcells, who drafted Chad Henne and Pat White for the Dolphins, says woe unto the team that blows a high QB pick
For the first time since 2007, the Miami Dolphins will run a draft without the wisdom of Bill Parcells in their war room.

But thanks to the fact Parcells has returned to the warm (and lucrative) cocoon of ESPN, we actually have far more access as a South Florida public to his updated thoughts than at any time over the past three years.

As such, it will be fascinating to watch Parcells on this 90-minute “Draft Confidential” special tonight on ESPN, starting at 9:30 p.m. To preview that show, Parcells went on “Mike and Mike” this morning on ESPN radio and spent two long segments sharing his thoughts on everything from the labor dispute to position priority on draft day.

With the Dolphins considering drafting a quarterback in the first round for the first time since Dan Marino nearly three decades ago, Parcells cautioned in general against missing on such an important (and expensive) selection.

“First of all it’s econonomic devastation, for one thing,” Parcells said on the air. “The way things are now, you’re stuck with a very, very high [salary] cap number for a player that’s not performing well for you. That’s not good no matter what happens, whatever position it is. But I think it’s more strongly felt at the quarterback position because the resolution to the most important position on the team is not in place. Economically it’s hurting you and on the field it’s hurting you.”

Yep why risk drafting a QB in the first round when you can throw FIVE second round picks at the position and miss the playoffs 7/8 years.

Hopefully no one else in the NFL catches on to our super secret "winning formula"

sssshhhhhh

Thanks for the input Bill. Something we didnt know before you spoke.

Thank goodness you didn't tie all that money up in a quarterback, Bill.

Hard to imagine where Miami would be if they hadn't decided to tie it all up in a left tackle and a psychopath wide receiver with more stab wounds than touchdowns...

..if nothing else, at least you were intelligent enough to split with the cash when it was apparent to even yourself that one place can only hold so many idiots at one time.

let's be fair, Jake is one of, if not the, best LT in the league. Tuna made some mistakes here, but Jake wasn't one of them.

Yes, it's Bill Parcells explaining why it's bad missing on high QB picks. Followed by an exclusive report from the Titantic's captain as to why it's bad to run into an iceberg.

Tying up your $ on the second most important position on the team, especially when he's the best college player available is fine; My problem is tying up your top 5 $$ on a part time RB after SF should have made a compelling decision even easier at the 2-spot. :idk:

Translation Parcells doesn't have the testicular fortitude to select a QB number 1! He also lacks the mental aptitude to scout and develop one!

Hey fat *** we might almost believe you cared about financially devastating a franchise if you didn't negotiate GOLDEN PARACHUTES for yourself and quit halfway through you contract when you are exposed!

Mistake or blown opportunity, consider it whatever you will... but the end result is the same. You're a mediocre football team that turned into a bad football team the last half of the season because they still don't have a quarterback.

You don't get many opportunities to draft a franchise changing quarterback.. Parcells was handed that opportunity through someone else's incompetence and failed to capitalize on it.

That's as fair as it gets.

As much as I wanted Matt Ryan! Sparano and Henning would have ruined him!

Roflmao! Atleast that captain had the balls and integrity to go down with his ship!

Whaaat??? ... Capt. Parcells abandoned ship ... reminds me of that Greek capt. & crew who abandoned the sinking cruise ship .... & the freakin' band ran the rescue & saved the day!!

The Cruise Capt.'s excuse was that he could better run the rescue from shore ... didn't Parcell do a similar thing, consulting from afar!!

Cripes, maybe Ross needs to hire that Cruise Band as the Dolphin's Official Band ... he'd improve the "entertainment experience" ... and we'll have them in reserve if Sparano & Ireland sink the S.S. Dolphin!!

Great analogy!

What a bunch of nonsense. Yeah, economic devastation in the form of a #15 overall pick's salary. Right. And guys like Gibril Wilson, Jake Grove, Justin Smiley, Ernest Wilford, Reggie Torbor, Eric Green...oh that was just a penny in the well.
