I'm told by someone in the know Bill Parcells knows exactly how he's going to use that No. 25 pick. He's got a certain player targeted, and is willing to move up for him if the Dolphins have to......
....But who can it be based on the team's needs at center, nose tackle, linebacker, receiver, and in the secondary?
While there is a large need at center (which I've addressed in this story), my pick is USC linebacker Rey Maualuga. Just a hunch.

After listening to the NFL NETWORK talk about Rey Maualuga and watching some clips on the guy, if this is the guy Parcells wants? I'm officially on the Rey Maualuga bandwagon. He could be our future R"e"y Lewis.

There has got to be a reason why the Trifecta are not so anxious to re-sign Channing Crowder, who finished the season with 113 tackles!?!

It's got to be that they feel that they want a Ray Lewis type hitter in the middle of their Defense. And that guy could be Rey Maualuga. He looks like the Troy Polamulu of the LB world. Would be cool to have Maualuga, Soliai, and Satele on the roster with those long braids. LOL.

Well, just reporting this article. I found it interesting to say the least...

It all starts on the lines, I would think he'd want Boston College Nose Tackle B.J. Raji. He's simply a beast and is mobile as well as huge and powerful.

The only problem with your philosophy Ed is . . . who knows where Rey Rey is going to go . . . Rey could go top 5 to Cleveland for all we know. U don't assume a player is going to drop far enough in any draft to say, oh well we only gotta give up this to get him.

Rey right now is my number 1 guy to get in this draft, I have never mocked him because I always figured he would be gone and that we wouldn't trade up . . . but I just think he will be an absolute monster in our 3-4, filling one of our biggest needs.

So you asked Parcells this and he told you?

I'm telling you lol, if Raji goes top 5, we aren't getting him . . . . if he goes top 10, we aren't getting him . . . now if he slips past San Fran at 10 . . . there is a chance we could trade up in front of Denver and try to snatch him . . . giving up only a 2nd would be a solid deal on draft value charts . . . . But still, I wouldn't do it . . . I don't feel that Raji is so great where we need to give up a starter to do it . . . I don't think we have that luxury.

Now if Crabtree falls, that is another story lol

Bill's already got his Simms in Pennington, his Meggett in Camarillo/Bess and his Jumbo Elliott in Jake.. so I agree it's plausible he's got his sights now set on replicating his LT in Maualuga, even down to the attitude.

Trading away draft picks is never a good idea. Bill has missed on a couple in the first round to so it's not like he cannot make a mistake. Really trading down by the numbers is a safer way to go unless you really really know and even then its been a mistake. Think how many Dolphin/ NFL players Jimmy Johnson picked up by trading down. How many Dolphins players Dave W, Nick S, Cameron and even DOn Shula missed by either trading up draft picks or not trading down and reaching for someone.
There are good players in every round. Jimmy Johnson did trade up a couple of time but it was int he 2nd round so he did not give away the bank and maybe the 4th round think Patrick Surtain and Cecil Collins. Overall JJ proved the more picks the betters and all Pros like Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor in the 5th and 3rd rouns plus a host of other prove JJ was right on target in the draft.

as much as i'd like to see us get Maualuga, and i would...i don't think he's worth trading up for....now B.J. Raji i could see us trading up for...we do need a no **** NT in order for our 3-4 defense to work...my bro&i were talking about this last night, and as he pointed out,and i already knew this...we can have all the DeMarcus Wares,Ray Lewis's,Joey Porters,Ed Reeds,Nnamdi Asomughas we want, but none of it means **** if we don't have ourselves a no **** NT right in the middle to make our 3-4 defense work, and i feel Raji is a no **** NT...he's got the right height&weight,he's strong&powerful,he's a pocket collapsing disruptive presense,we have the strength&conditioning program to get&keep him in shape,we have the coaches to motivate him to play to his fullest potential,we have Ferguson to help teach, guide,&mentor him,and i think that if Parcells&Co. feel strongly about him, they'll make the move to get him...i'd hate to have to give up the picks to do it,but at least we'd be finally getting ourselves a no **** NT....

we will keep all our picks, the only trading that will be going on is trading down for more

I didn't say anything, nor give my philosophy. I merely posted the article. It's the columnist's philosophy. He was the one who mentioned that someone close to Parcells and in the know (Sirius Radio's Gil Brandt) knows who Parcells is targeting in the 1st round and that Parcells has stated he is willing to trade up for 'his' guy. Whether that is Lauranaitus or Maualuga, I don't know. The columnist feels its Maualuga.
