I believe Miami is running this particular style of offense currently. Which is dictating the use of frequent short routes and shotgun formation. The first set of games and the starting series of those games shows Miami out the gate fast in this formation and setting the tempo of the game. Keeping defense on their feet with hurry up offense and leaving 3rd and short situations whenever available. This helps manage the clock and exhausting for opposing defenses. However Miami is quick to lose the tempo and has lost key pieces from the get go to make this an effective offense to run. Clay has stepped up big and Gibson was a big part of it. If Miami went run dominant instead of using short routes to spread the defense out. Would it be more effective? Are miller and Thomas, who have had shaky games at best, able to carry the load that is demanded to keep a defense honest?

"the offensive system popularized by Bill Walsh characterized by short, horizontal passing routes in lieu of running plays to "stretch out" defenses, opening up the potential for long runs or long passes."

I think a big reason the run is abandoned late in the game is the amount of energy required to block by RB to make up for a suspect line.

Let's say Sherman doesn't abandon this playcalling style. What could be done to tweak this to be more effective for Miami?

The Shotgun isn't a big part of Bill Walsh's system. It is a spread element brought in later. And our runningbacks should be the last guys on the team to get tired by the end of the game based on how often they get subbed.

The Dolphins are running a WCO (or at least a form of it), the problem is many of the players they acquired don't necessarily fit that system. The WR are suppose to be savy route runner with good hands....Gibson and Hartline fit that description fine, but Wallace doesn't. The offensive line is suppose to have good lateral movement....they don't. The RB's need to have good hands, but also be able block....again they don't do that well. In the end the personal doesn't exactly fit that type of offense and is one of the reason it isn't working as well as it should.
