Are the Bills and Jets better than we expected b/c they hung with New England? or are the patriots simply not as good. Lets be honest im not saying this b/c i think we are taking the east this year (althought i havnt completly ruled it out its only week 2) But all biases aside, i think we could have beaten the bills, we made some HORRIBLE plays that handed them the ball in great feild posistion. The bills hung with the pats however, so are they really a good team who can hang with the pats and man handle us when we play like garbage? The Jets seem to have chad back (back from what one good season lol???) And they nearly came back on new england although the pats once again were solid in the 4th quarter and pulled the game out. So my question again is ...are the pats simply not as dominant this year b/c they could not put down the bills and jets decisivly? or are the jets and bills simply better teams that are hanging with the pats, and evidently in the bills case crusing the dolphins...thoughts?

You laugh about Pennington, yet "noodle arm" is making your QB look like a rookie!!

I dont care that the Jet's lost to the Pat's, i just think it's funny how everyone on this board thought that DC was the best, now look where you stand!!:sidelol:

It's a little of both. The Patriots lost a lot of key personnel in the offseason. That almost guarantees they were going to struggle some early on. We'll have to wait and see if the can pick up their play as the season progresses. As for Pennington, he is a very smart QB and the Jets have some weapons. If the Jets can do things to compensate for their relative weakness at running back with the loss this season of Curtis Martin, they may be tougher than they've been given credit.

Naturally, I also like to think the Bills are better than preseason predictions gave them credit for. They got much faster on defense and they are using a system that I think places less of a premium on experience than some others. That is, conceptually it's pretty simple. All the positions have well defined roles. If the players learn them and play with discipline, they don't need three years of experience to do well. It is a system that places a premium on athleticism, and the Bills actually have a lot of that now. On offense, the key really is stability. The Bills have settled on Losman and are gearing things to help him be successful. There's going to be no switching back and forth this season. The offensive line has been intact through preseason. That's been important. Buffalo has a long ways to go, but I think they are finally on the right track.

The Bills and Jets have certainly got better. Yesterdays game should have been in the bag and the Jets nearly made an inprobable rally with 17 straight points.

The Patriots need some things to get better. Here are the bad things we have going.

Brady- He needs to get his head in the game, he is lacking passion and is playing poorly. We've nearly lost two games due to some of his play. He aint looking like the best QB in the NFL right now. Too early to tell but he may be injured a little, dissapointed after the Branch thing. I dont know but its not his recievers fault. People got open. Especially Watson and he under threw him when he was wide open causing it to be tipped.

Defensive Penalties & Tackling- Coles was phenonmenal but cmon Wilson...Scott...some LB...Hobbs, Samuel. They all had chances to get him and whiffed. Great player. I think he is def. better than Chambers. Nice awareness by Crotchey also.

And our big positive...

Dillon- Also Maroney but Dillon has been great and drained the clock for our first two wins. Two games with over 4 yards a carry. Last year was definitley more about injuries then being washed up.

Obviously the Jets and Bills are ALOT better than last year, NE is better than they were the 1st half of last yera but not as good yet as they were the 2nd half of last year.

As long as Chad stays healthy the jets will be pretty good, when halthy he's one of the top QBs in the game and he's showing that the first 2 weeks.

I know it is early, but I think both the Bills and Jets are contenders in this league this year.

The Pats, while beating both of us, don't like like the powerhouse they used to be.

This Bills/Jets game could be a sign of a wild card position in the future.

I give the Jets the edge because of the QB position.

Partly, but this from the Miami Herald also acknowledges that Daunte comes with some baggage -- which Fins fans refused to accept:

Culpepper, two games in, seems prone to untimely interceptions, tending to sluggish decision-making and thus extremely prone to taking sacks, including seven on Sunday. We have seen, early on, why he left Minnesota with the rep of a man able to put up fat numbers that don't always hide the negatives.

The Pats remain the class of the AFCE until somebody proves otherwise. I think Brady is having problems with targets because I don't think the Pats receivers are very good without Givens and Branch. I think they will win enough games during the regular season to make the playoffs because of Dillon -- and the 2 punch of Maroney. The lack of quality WRs will bite them in the azz in the playoffs when they have to face tough Ds that shut down their running game.

Bills/Jets will be an interesting game, but I don't think either team will make the playoffs this year -- unless NE goes down the tubes. I think both are in the 7 to 9 win range, and 9 wins won't take the AFC WC with Pitt and Cinci in the same division.

I've always liked Pennington, but I think that the Bills will win their home opener.

I agree with you that neither team will make the playoffs, your defense is top notch, and to have a great defense with that many rookies starting is a great feat!!

I too think that the Bill's will take this game next week, but it will not be easy, Chad has now started to open eyes with back to back 300 yard games.

The Pat's have taken a step back, but like you said, they are the class of the division until proven otherwise.

The Dolphins have gotten slapped in the face with the reality that their QB is prone to many mistakes, and that this may be another rebuilding year for the franchise.

Overall i think that the Pat's are still going to take the division, but i think that the Bill's are going to end up 2nd and it will be a fight for the bottom with the Jet's and Phin's, but if Daunte can turn things around, that may change.

why is it always someone else's fault when it comes to Daunte? All offseason I heard how grat your OL would be w/ your great OL coach and w/ the FA additions and now Daunte is performing like classic dante and it's b/c of the OL.

I still don't think either the Bills or Jets will be playoff contenders this year. Nor will the Dolphins. The Patriots take the division again, almost by default. I'm not sure which way the Dolphins are headed. We'll have to see how the team handles this past weekend. I'm of the opinion that most Bills fans have that Miami did themselves no favor by hiring Mike Mularkey as OC, but who knows at this point. I don't have much of a read on the Jets yet. I'm sure that will change this week.

Looking ahead, I really like the Bills chances to do some damage in the league in 2007, but we need to get this season in the books before I worry too much about next year.

Culpepper blows end of story.............Harrington is the better or the two and showed it in preseason. No MOSS equals no good QBing from Culpepper.

The Bills and Jets are just better....the Pats always win close games....they aren't usually completely blowing out their lower opponents...plus divisional teams ususally play you tougher!

Give C-Pep time to blossom. Then later on in the season he will kick the Jets and the Bills @$$. I hope you guys are basking in this moment because when u see us again it will be at the top of the AFC East Division. Do Somthin!!

Look at the number of times we have played each other:

N.Y. JETS 41, MIAMI 39 (1 tie) - Good Job by the jets
