Orchard Park, NY – The Bills today announced that the team has signed TE Robert Royal. In accordance with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Royal spent the last four seasons with the Redskins and played in 35 games, starting 29 over the course of his four-year career. In total, he has tallied 31 receptions for 249 yards and five touchdowns in his career. In 2005, Royal started 14 games and caught 18 passes for 131 yards with a touchdown and in 2004, Royal posted a career-high four touchdown receptions for Washington.

“Robert Royal fits our style of offensive attack,†Bills general manager Marv Levy said. “We believe that he will be a key player in our receiving attack, and he is also a tremendous blocking tight end. He is a player on the rise and we are very pleased that h is a member of the Buffalo Bills.â€Â

Looks like you guys made some nice additions to your team.

I'm not sure why the bills administration is in love with Royal.

I know very little about him, so I'm not going to ***** or cheer. Marv obviously knows more about football than I do, so I'm sure it's all for the greater good.

It also looks like you gave up a lot of money for that TE and bills fans are not happy about it

We did overpay for him, plus most fans didnt know who he was.

Marv says he is an outstanding blocker who wasnt utilized in the passing game, but he feels he has the potential to be a huge weapon.

He liked him a lot. He saw something in him.

Almost every Bills fan had no idea who this guy was, so the contract was a shocker. Im sure most thought he was a backup TE to Cooley, but actually he was the starter and Cooley was an H-Back/Fullback.

TE Robert Royal

"He fits the style of attack that we envision," said Levy. "One of the areas where we felt that we had to perform better was along the offensive line. I don't know if there is a better blocking tight end than Robert Royal. We feel we've upgraded not just the tight end position but we feel we have helped our offensive line a lot. This is as good as a blocking tight end that I've seen."

As you fin fans have pointed Marv has been around for a while and for him to say "This is as good as a blocking tight end that I've seen" is a heck of a compliment.

Triplett was a smart signing, I must admit. He should really make their defense more formidable but I wouldnt go writing home about Royal and Davis. Not that they're bad, but theyre not gamebreakers either.

Tripplet is good, kudos on that pick up, but Royal? I never heard of him. Davis is a good 3rd or 4th WR.

Hit the nail on the head.

Royal is a blocking TE, Davis is a depth receiver if we keep Moulds and an experienced starter if we cut Moulds.
