Just wondering if anyone else remembers this....

Back when the Blackwood brothers (who were more known for their ability to lay some lumber on WR's foolish enough to cross over the middle against them than for their "speed") were patrolling the 'Phins' secondary, some announcer (who, if I recall correctly, was Axthelm) made a comment that they were so slow that even he could beat them in a 40 yard race. So come the next Sunday, the network had a pre-game segment that put that statement to the test, with the predictable result that Glenn and Lyle smoked him with ease (then again, whoever the announcer was had to be at least in his 40's at the time and hardly in what one could even remotely call in playing shape).
Maybe it's just because it involved the Dolphins, but I sure got a kick out of it.

I dont remember this race, but I bet it was close. I hated those guys. I always thought they sucked

How can you hate the killer B's era. No speed and all hit!

Glenn and Kyle were members of the Killer B's man!!!

Pete Axtelm was a portly prognosticator, NBC's version of Jimmy the Greek. He died of a heart attack in the late 80's. He usaually liked the Dolphins. He was a good guy.

Wow good memory... But the Blackwood brothers had good enough speed. Gary Fencik was damn good safety for the Bears in the 80's but amazingly fast. I don't remember any superfast guys back then in the NFL....

The Blackwood boys benefited from the seven guys in front of them. We had a very average secondary then.

Pete "The Ax" Axtelm was the only studio host that picked The Miami Dolphins to beat The Chicago Bears on the greatest Monday Night Football game of all time in 1985 to preserve the Dolphin's perfect season. I always loved the "The Ax', rest on "Ax'. Go Phins! :dolphins:

I remember the Killer B's.....we should have won the Superbowl against the 49ers. :boohoo:

The Blackwood Brothers were wonderful and actually made several key plays for the Dolphins on the way to the Super Bowl against the Redskins. Lyle also picked off a Jaworski pass late in a memorable Monday Night game against the Eagles where ABC "accidently" broadcast Shula cussing out the referees.

How many key plays did the Blackwood Brothers make for the Dolphins? Well, let's put it this way, we remember their names but try to remember the names of the Dolphins safeties ever since - Louis Oliver, Marion, ????

Pete Axthelm was a (not very secret) Dolphin fan, so whatever the late Pete Axthelm might have made against the Dolphins trust me that it was in fun or just a very upset fan commenting on his team's problem.
