I am sick and tired now of blaming the agent of Ronnie Brown. Historically the second pick in the draft GETS a certain percentage of guarenteed money than the first pick. Historically this has been the case. The amount of money goes up with every year as well. These things don't change. This year the amount of Ronnie Browns guarenteed money falls around 21 million. The Dolphins are offering 19. Come on. Just pay the guy for the love of GOD. He is not going to accept less. This isn't free agent negotiating. If you wanted to give him 19 mill. than you should have traded down with CLE or CHI. Since you didn't pay the guy and lets start the Dolphin Dynasty.

Just because SF caved and overpaid for Smith does not mean we must follow suit...ONE player is not bigger than the team.

And Matt Leinart Will be overpayed next season unless the CBG changes and the trend will carry on year after year. Everybody overpays for rookies. That is just the way it is.

22 mil for doing nothing for the fins, i don't think so, he needs to stop being so greedy!

Let's blame Wannstadt and company for putting us in the position of choosing second. The OP has a point in that we know the second person drafted would seek what he's seeking. Irregardless of the position he plays. My stance is that we'd be hard pressed to get the value at the RB position. We should have traded down, if we weren't prepared to swap guaranteed money for the risk.

Maybe, the return of Rickey or the witnessing of Houck's magic has caused the coaches to re-evaluate the wisdom of investing such a hefty sum in mere potential and/or in the RB position as a whole when we may need that money for a QB next year. After-all, what position seems more unsettling at this point?

I do agree with your sentiments but that's just the way it is. Even at 19 million Brown will be paid more than McGahee or Julius Jones and he hasn't even taken a snap.

and that's just wrong.

…Thus the ever evolving saga of players holding outâ€â€both rookies AND veterans.

I agree that it just is the way it is…but one player is not bigger than the team. I know we agree on this…

I am not apposed to players making the salaries they do, I am apposed to players making these salaries and signing bonuses without playing a down in the NFL.

Amen! ROnnie, if you want to play for the premiere teamin the NFL, it's time you buck up son, bite the $3mm, sign the paper and get your young butt on the practice field and prove you are worth it. Every year I want to puke when these young "nobody's" hold out thinking that their past performance in the NCAA is indicative of what they can and will do for the team, and team is the key word. How many have gotten big bucks only to fizzle out when they get out there with the big boys? Check out those numbers. IMHO I am for giving them a flat signing bonus (Welcom to the NFL) of some reasonable number and then every player gets the league minimum UNTIL they prove themselves. If a player really thinks he's hot stuff, an incentive laden contract IS the way to go. Of course you have to add an injury clause and maybe the TEAM pays for injury insurance of $??mm in the event of a season or career injury. Seriously, I think enough is enough.:fire:

Welcome to the business of the NFL and what you get for sucking bad one season. That's why we don't suck often. Can't afford to. Now pay Ronnie what he is due and move on already

Get over it. He signs when he signs. Saban's not stupid enough to bow to France or over pay like the 9ers did. There are (I believe) 6 players unsigned between 2 & 8 and the terms of Caddy's deal (5) have yet to be disclosed.

This only seems as long and painful as you think it is, due to the extra week of camp. LT missed nearly his whole Rookie camp & still came in to rush for over 100 yds in their season opener that year.

As it's been said, many times, many ways, "In Saban we trust...."

The problem is that QBs historically get more than RBs in the first round of the draft and deservedly so.

The system does not differentiate among positions so Browns agent is seeking a package similar to what a QB would expect in the No 2 slot.

Thats one of the factors that is wrong wirh the system. The agent wants to get a package commensurate to the slot and the Dolphins are offering a package commensurate to the RB position .

One idiotic team/ organization doesn't set the market for the entire league. San Fran overpaid Smith (too big an increase from last yr).
19-20 mill is more than fair. Be like your teammate Cadillac and show how badly you want to play.
Benson and Edwards are coming across like a couple of jerks right now. So far Ronnie hasn't, because the negotiations haven't been done through the media. But, its only a matter of time.

If you think Alex Smith was overpayed wait until you see Leinart he will get guaranteed 30 million
