Watching the Jaguars game, I was really pleased with our "starters", and to a certain degree, many of our backups (particularly on offense). However, two plays really bother me. In both, a Dolphins safety blitzed very effectively, had a sure sack, and somehow, did not get it. I am referring to Renaldo Hill and Deke Cooper. In Hill's case, he was in the QB's face, and it looked as if he gave up on the play, almost like it was too easy. He just sort of assumed that Garrard was down, so he didn't give much of a tackle. The result was the QB just sliding out of the pocket and getting rid of the ball. It would have pinned them deep in their own territory. Again, I realize it is early and I do like what I see from Hill in general, but this is a play that just must be made. Especially considering Saban's desire to blitz the safety regularly, just as Yeremiah Bell did much of last season. The second play was even worse, when Deke Cooper also had Garrard for a big sack, only to hesitate for just a split second and the result was the big TD for Jones-Drew.

Just needed to know if these two plays drove anybody else crazy, despite it being just a meaningless game. I guess it is because blitzing is something that safeties in our system must do well. Hopefully Kirby Smart addresses this. You just have to be relentless in your pursuit when blitzing. Get the guy on the ground.

This is what I call getting acclamated to the system. I recall last year we were jumping offsides all the time and not in sinc and missing the corners on the blitz, so I consider this year a huge improvement with guys who are alos new to the system.

We really did not throw alot at them in the grand scheme of things. Look for game three to be the one where you see it, but the new guys will figure it out. Bell already knows the blitz deal. Allen will figure it out too and he also got in there but the blocker picked him up nice so you cant win them all.

hills play was a little different. garrard faked a throw and then tucked as if bracing to get hit, so hill didnt hit him because he didnt want to get the penalty. you can kind of tell because hill immediately starts off in the direction he thougt the ball was thrown. that can easily be taken care of. coopers situation i didnt like. he basically got burned by the qb

It looked to me like Garrard pump faked and hill thought he threw the ball. Hill looked away, he looked like a dog when you fake throw the ball while playing fetch :D .

That is likely what happened.

It could have something to do with the fact that during practice when they blitz they are very careful not to hit Pep so they've just been accustomed to pulling up before they get to the QB?
