As somebody has mentioned a couple of times today, succesful blocking is NOT just the offensive line versus the defensive line and even if the line does a great job, a miscue by a back, tight end or even a receiver could really blow things up and turn a potential positive play into a minimal or negative situation.

With that being said, Randy wasn't out there last night and while we all focus on his contributions in the passing game, he is also a strong blocker. Lamar Gordon is a very, very average at best blocker and Travis Minor is only capable of shielding off at best. We need to put out a complete offensive unit that can open up holes and protect the passer so that our playmakers can do just that; make plays. One of the reasons I was so pumped about Ronnie Brown was that he is a GREAT blocking back and when he gets in there and gets rolling the difference will be quite noticeable over our other backs, including Ricky who is just average.

Jamar Martin, I believe, needs to start. The short passing game wil feature Ronnie/Ricky, as well as Randy McMichael of course and in certain situations Heath Evans, Lorenzo Diamond and guys like that can contribute. On a consistent basis, however, Martin's emphatic, powerful blocking, combined with Ronnie's ability in this field, Mac, and our good-sized receivers will be the best way to go in terms of enhancing the blocking and protection that is the essence of any strong offense.

Thank you Bo. That's what I was getting at when I mentioned that people can't seem to understand why 5 guys can't block 9.

last night theirs was a lot of blitzing, and apperently they dont do that alot in the hall of fame game so i dont think they were compleley prepared for all that activity no one wants to get hurt before reg-season

I agree. We were playing a plain offense and they appeared to have actually schemed for this game. Not a big deal, just a different approach to the pre-season.

I agree. I also agree about Martin being a strong lead blocker. The only thing is that Scott Linehan doesn't run a lot of plays out of the I Formation. It was used, but not nearly as much as the single back set with the H-Back in the game. Heath Evans and Lorenzo Diamond were playing the H-Back role.

The worst at picking up the blitz were Ricky, Gordon, and Minor by far. Absolutely pathetic...
