I just heard Mike Mayock say that he is concerned about our pick because Jason Allen could have a "Bo Jackson disease" as he is coming off a major hip injury coming out of college.

Now I don't follow college football too much, so i'm not to familiar with Jason Allen, but I hope we didn't just draft another Eddie Moore. You know, another player that will never see the field. Much worse being that we drafted him in the first round.

Being that he is coming off an injury couldn't he have slipped to the 3rd round??

Anyone else concerned about this pick???

no, im not concerned with this pick. We need help in the secondary. Yes, Chad chackson would have been nice but safty was a bigger need. And just so you know, i promise you that Bo wasnt running a 4.4 40 after that hip injury.

He may have it....

Other players afflicted by it are Brett Favre and Bo Jackson.

There was some speculation that his hip problems might come from a degenerative condition...but there's no way he would have been picked if those concerns hadn't turned out to be unfounded.

I think it's important not to take a prognosticator's speculation as the word of the gospel. I doubt that we'd have drafted a guy if the possibility that he has a degenerative hip was prominent. I'm sure that they checked into his hip and gave him a physical.

priest holmes had the same injury and he recovered from it. that was a career ending injury years ago not any more. no need to worry did you see him run that 4.4 at the combine? he will be just fine dont worry.

The disease you're referring to is avascular necrosis, which happens when blood flow is interrupted to the bone and the bone starts to decay. I would consider it highly unlikely that Jason Allen's hip goes bad like Bo Jackson's did. Jason did not fracture his hip like Bo did, nor was Jason's dislocation as bad as Bo's, nor did Jason's injury require surgery like Bo's did. He's been under the care of both Dr. James Andrews and a noted hip specialist.

Welll I trust...Nick Saban... but Allen sounds like a 3rd ronder to me.... and with no 2nd round pick....who will be next until 3rd round????

bottom line is Nick knows him well and who am I to question that

why would you say 3rd rounder...that is such a ridiculous statement. he's a first round cb/s and has been on many boards in the first round. if we didn't take him, he'd be taking by sd most likely just like cromartie was.

its not avascular necrosis, that is what bo jackson had and you need a hip replacement with that, more then likely it is just a labral tear

First off, I'm a Georgia Bulldog so I've seen a lot of this guy. He was durable his entire career until getting hurt his senior season ironically against Georgia. Please let's not start labeling the guy "Eddie Moore". I think it's safe to assume that Nick and Co. did their due diligence and felt that the hip injury was not a concern to draft the guy with the 16th pick.

How can he sound like a 3rd rounder when he was down as a top 10 pick last season and decided instead to finish his senior yr and did good at the combine? I say OLB in 3rd but if hes no better than Spragan its wasted. We may go WR.

Jason Taylor was a 3rd round pick, remember, so it's not inconceivable they could find someone that's certainly an upgrade to Spragan.
