The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn suggests Dolphins third-round pick Olivier Vernon might turn out to be the best value pick in the draft.

It should be noted that McGinn is the most plugged-in draftnik in the nation. McGinn describes Vernon as a "tough guy, physical, explosive" and believes he should have been a second-round pick. Vernon's career path was headed for stardom as a sophomore before the Nevin Shapiro fiasco ruined his final college season. He will be a down defensive end in Kevin Coyle's 4-3 scheme.

Hope he is right. If he is a legit pass rusher, him and Wake will tear it up in the 4-3 with Odrick + Soliai in the middle. Cant wait for this season.

Can't wait to see our new D-line!!!! I have a feeling Odrick is in for a monster year and alot of people will know this kid by the end of the season.

I think there is one advantage that Vernon will have that Wake did not...coaching. I think this staff is mostly made up of 'teaching' type coaches that will make a difference in due time. Nolan, who was and is a good DC, is simply not a teacher...give him talent and he can create a successful D, but he is less adept at building that D from the ground up. I see OV being used on a situational basis to begin with and then given more freedom and responsibility as he progresses. He may start out as a 43 DE, but he'll be moved around and given the opportunities as he learns the positions...

Of course, how quickly this comes about is up to Vernon...

I hope he doesnt get fat and lazy like our last Vernon

How quickly people forget how that 'fat' Vernon saved our bacon as LT for several years...The guy was coerced into coming back this past year, didn't stay in shape and had a poor year, but the other 7 yrs of his career don't count, I guess...

Carey played left tackle for one season, the year they went 1-15

I'm a huge fan of randy starks, I hope he excels in this 4-3. I don't remember if he did well or not on the titans

I'm still a little worried about our secondary. I know our front seven will be solid.

hope he's right, it would be great to have someone to help out wake!

If Vernon starts, which would mean he mauled the HELL out of everybody in front of him, then I´m oficcially stoked beyond belief for the next few years!!!!

I hope we see Odrick do the pee wee dance over 20 times this year

I watched Vernon though out his college career. He was hard to miss because as a D lineman he wore #35. Very disruptive and hard to block. Spends most of his time in the other teams back field. Not nearly as quick as Cam Wake but he made 10 + tackles for loss to go with his sacks the last year before his suspention.
Not sure he's the starter but as a situational guy he should be very good.
