I know there are not many on here, but there are some.

This article does not make me very happy and I hope he reconsiders. If he truly wants to be considered elite and one of the best ever, he must attempt to conquer 147, arguably the deepest and most talented division in boxing right now. I dont think he can fight at 154. If he runs from these challenges, his greatness will be questioned in the history books and as a huge fan of his, I'd hate to see it unfold that way.

At least if he fights Margarito we'll have a more certain answer. As we all know, many fighter have achieve greatness in defeat so if he were to lose this fight (i'm 60-40 in favor of the Mexican), it would not diminish his accomplishments.

Money talks in boxing. Mayweather wants De La Hoya, that's why he broke off his relationship with Arum. I know everyone wants to see him fight Margarito but IMO the best fight in boxing would be a DLH-Mayweather. That fight would bring boxing a lot of good attention and would be one for the ages, especially with all the bad blood between Floyd and his pops!

I think you're right and that fight will happen perhaps as early as September.

The fight that us real hardcore fans want to see and I consider you in that group is against Margarito. Against DLH, it will most likely be at a catch weight of 150. I just cant see PBF fighting him at 154. I think thats a more dangerous figh than Margarito at 147. Don't you think?

Hatton is intriguing too, but the bad blood thats brewing between the two may make negotiations tough.

I consider Mayweather the best out there right now and I want to see him fight the best. Cotto is way too green still and does not move his head well. He'd be a sitting duck and I'm Puerto Rican so it hurts me to say that.

Another step in the plan of PBF and HBO to copy the Roy Jones gameplan. 20 mil to fight DLH, when Hop only got 12? And Hop had already made a killing on a previous PPV (Tito and the co-feature leading into the DLH fight). Floyd's 2 PPV have undersold (both in the 350 k range). Basically HBO is in bed with Golden Boy Productions (see 3 dates in May, a month ripe for boxing) and they want their supposed undipsputed P4P king to be protected by them.

Floyd never wanted any part of Margarito and it has nothing to do with any hand problems. Floyd was in 2 life and death struggles with a plodding, relatively slow Mexican 5 yrs ago and decided then and there that tough, hardcore fight fan fights were not for him unless he is blown away by the money. 8 mil for Margarito, thats free money. TJ Tony has very little chance in that fight but he will undoubtly charge forward and fight for 12 rds. But the Roy Jones/Lil Floyd fans all over America will make excuses just like they did for a decade with Roy and their careers will always be met with unanswerable questions. Roy Jones walks into a casino on the strip and its no friggin big deal. Nobody cares. You should see the response guys like Tito, Leonard, and Hearns get.

I hope that in time I am proven to be a fool and that Floyd takes on the fights that will define the 2nd half of his career (Tony, Hatton, Cotto, maybe young guys like Julio or Williams in time) as the first 4-5 yrs of his career defined the early portion of his career (Manfredy, Castillo, Corrales, Hernandez, Chavez). But I get the sense it will be more of the same nonsense (Brussles, Sharmba, Sosa) with a big event mixed in (DLH).

You hit on a few good points that I'd like to see not tied to PBF. He will be viewed as another RJJ if he does not make an attempt to clean out this talent laden division. I think Margarito poses all kinds of problems for Floyd. Floyd cannor hurt him and Tony will walk him down, take 2 or 3 punches to land one of his. We saw that Floy could not hurt glass jawed Judah yet he adjusted and fought a beutiful fight. His win against Gatti went as I expected but was a masterpiece. Against DLH, I think PBF would be at his best but at what weight will they fight?

Fans want to see him against Margarito, Hatton and maybe Cotto. He's good enough to give the fans what they want. Something RJJ never did.

umm....maybe not.

their talkin about him getting over 20 mill for the De La Hoya fight....

wow.

Kevin Iole said it best. Should Mayweather fight Margarito, a tougher fight for 8 million or fight De La Hoya, an easier fight, for 20 million? Easy choice if you ask me!

I know a lot of boxing fans want to see him fight Margarito because on paper it makes the most sense but what they fail to realize is that boxing is and has always been about money, not what fight the fans want to see the most. That's boxing's biggest problem but as a fan, I don't let it bother me anymore because I know it's a business before it becomes a sport in the ring. There's a ton of fights that make sense on paper that won't happen that is why as a fight fan (if you a die-hard like me) you should either watch and enjoy the fights the sport gives you or go watch something else because the fans will never get their way as far as what fights they want to see because of the corrupt sanctioning bodies. That's life in boxing and as far as Mayweather's decision goes, he made the right one. You can go from the top to the bottom in one fight in boxing so he might as well get his money while his name is stil hot cause once he gets a loss on his record, he'll never have the drawing power he could have right now!
