Boys, we are in deep trouble if this is true(Sapp Vs Allen debate)

Exactly . . .Sapp isn't meant for the boundary . . . he can play it in a pinch, hopefully a short one, but as a slot/nickel CB, he has that skill set over most of our guys so he in that sense is still a valuable asset to this team . . .especially if Will Allen's knee is already sore after only a few days of practice. Of course I would love to upgrade him, but he isn't "as bad" of an option as people are making him out to be. It is a benefit going up against the likes of Davone Bess in practice every day as well.

Sean Smith in the slot . . . ugh. Nolan Carroll struggled mightily in the slot last year as well. If Will Allen can't go, Benny Sapp is our best option and like somebody else said, we still had the #6 defense in the league last year with him manning the slot. To be honest with you, he didn't play poorly last year . . . about what I expected, which is fine.

Ah I see your point. While there are definitely options out there worse than Sapp, I don't see why our other young db's couldn't step up

Considering he is in line to play the exact same position he did last year when our defense was ranked 6th, I fail to see what the problem is...

Don't see how Sapp contributed to that ranking....Nolan is tired of hiding Sapp.

i thought iw as a "finatic" but i guess im way down on the list since alotta ppl on this board constantly watch all kinds of film on every single player we have b/c they all know how many of them suck . . . i know it is entirely possible to compile a 100 percent perfect team but for some reason our FO cant do it while finheaven FA and draft gurus would have done it every year.

Benny Sapp made a few plays last year. I would rather have him out there than a hobbled, 34 year old Will Allen.
imo, Ireland has built a nice young secondary in a very short time. when Allen and Bell move on, there will be guys ready to step in.

The Sapp hate comes from letting Wes Welker do some work on him in the slot. I got news for you, Welker does that to just about every nickel CB in the game. Sapp held his own, plays physical, plays special teams and can blitz the QB. Yea he has his ups and downs in coverage but he isn't a bad option for us as the nickel CB.

You wanna see somebody get beat like a drum . . . put Sean Smith in the nickel and see what happens.
smith was the best db the second half of the season, what are you talking about

Sparano said that Will Allen might return to practice tomorrow.

interesting...of course if he does return tomorrow its more important that he shows he can handle multiple days of work in a row...i think this swelling things gonna be an issue all camp and preseason...

if he keeps missing time after going out there for a day or whatever i'm sorry but we got to part ways...no point in carrying anyone we can't depend on

b/t benny sapp is not as near as bad a nickle cb as he's made out on here to be...its tough as hell to stay with the elite quickness and feet of slot wrs...sapps solid in press not good in off man or zone...but he can tackle to limit the yac...which is what you really worry about...yac from slot wrs running free in your secondary...its not bad when a nickle cb lets a guy catch the ball in the slot underneath provided he makes the secure tackle immediately...benny sapp can tackle...

LOL, our dime corner/special teamer is going to make this team collapse. Give me a break.

Apparently, you forgot the days of Reggie Howard.

The secondary can be like a chain- all it takes is one guy not doing his job for the defense to lose that play. And I watched last year, and very frequently Sapp was the guy not covering his man that let the other team's offense convert third down after third down.

Our defense was highly ranked because of our excellent pass rush and run defense, not because our secondary was anything special.

long with a knee injury
sapp starting murtha starting not good news
you hope jimmy wilson makes the next step
and sparano the offensive line guru polishes a turd into a gem.

Shallow.

It's a different game today, friends. And the 21st Century passing game has just about led to the invention of a NEW position. Don't say "Nickel" CB anymore, except as a point of reference. That position is now the "Slot CB", for want of a better phrase. And a lot of decent NFL CBs don't do well at it! SAPP is pretty good at it, and W ALLEN was supposed to try it out: MIAMI had high hopes about W ALLEN and the "slot" ("nickel").

I'd keep SAPP strictly for that purpose. And W ALLEN as well, if he's healthy. Someone who can handle the "slot" WR is essential, as long as there are W WELKER-types in the League. I'd also keep CARROL, and WILSON as a S, for sure. If this means bye-bye to CULVER, and maybe also NESS, so be it.

MURTHA doesn't really belong in this thread. But since he was mentioned, he played well at RT against DETROIT last season. I really thought that maybe the "light went on" for him toward the end of the season. Now, we read from many MIAMI beat writers that he's doing well in camp. Fine. We'll see soon enough. But I'm unimpressed by "know it all's" posting a rehash of yesterday's news on an unofficial DOLPHINS website, in an attempt to be clever. I consider such "Dolfans" to be phonies at best, and morons.

You should get a full days ban for mentioning him. lol. never understood how he or jeno james got the contracts they did. Did someone have naked pictures of our owner

as old as Will is, and as injured as he is, he can make a good impact for us on defense. I was looking foward to him blitzing and being able to handle the boundry corner from time to time and the slot. Hope he can play.

i agree will even at his age can make a big impact if he can stay healthy and is an upgrade over sapp, as of what we seen of sapp last year but just as been said sapp might have picked up his game some ,heres to hopeing will comes back and is ready to roll come game day.
