Boys, we are in deep trouble if this is true(Sapp Vs Allen debate)

I'm most surprised at how many people are jumping to Benny Sapp's defense. It's almost like you guys didn't watch any football from last season - or at least didn't retain anything.

Benny Sapp was, at best, average. Most of the time he was in, he was thrown at He wasn't AWFUL - he usually stayed behind his guy... but he always gave up first downs - always. He would just stand behind his man to make sure he never got beat over the top and opposing offenses would just run at him, turn one yard past the first down marker and make the throw - he always gave soft coverage.

If he is the nickle corner is it the end of the world? No, probably not... but it is not like we don't already have enough issues on offense where we can afford to have any mediocrity anywhere on the defense.

this thread is a joke, benny sapp played lights out last year for a backup, hell he played better than sean smith our starter.

Sapp is probably better than Sean Smith. I really don't know what games you people watch on Sunday's sometimes.

Sapp was also the starter at CB for the Vikings team that should have beaten the Saints and gone to the Super Bowl

Yes you are right we clearly are not watching the same games because Sapp is nowhere close to being better then Smith. SMH

smith was the best db the second half of the season, what are you talking about

Smith played well on the boundary last year, but he gets torched in the slot. You won't see Miami putting him there. He has improved his tackling, but he still isn't a good enough tackler. That is why Will Allen would be an interesting look in the slot, because Allen IMO was always a good tackler from the CB position. And refering to what Hoops said in another thread, Vontae probably could be the best option in the slot, but it would weaken our ability to have a lockdown CB on the teams best WR.

Ideally you hope Nolan Carrol could man it, but he was getting used in the slot in the preseason last year.

Dont blame that on Smith blame that on the idiots that put him in the slot. Who the hell thinks its a good idea to put a 6'4 lanky DB in the slot to cover smaller, quicker & Shiftier WR's. Simply stupid.

Can't argue with you there, just letting people know why Smith wouldn't be a good fit there and Benny Sapp would be . . . though like I said I think Will Allen would be the best fit, but I wouldn't risk him being our only option there if his knee is bothering him still.

I am not a huge Allen fan as many know but ya thats where I would put him on the field if i was forced to play him. But I really would prefer one of the youngins to hammer the nickel spot down.

I think the Fins hope for the same, to cut both of the veterans . . . Nolan Carrol or Nate Ness . . . step right up the job is yours if you want it. I have said it from day one . . . the OLine is gonna be interesting, obviously the QB battle . . . but the position I am most looking forward to is the secondary. There is going to be some serious battles at CB and Safety this preseason. May the best man win.

Smith got beat out by Jason Allen for pete sakes! Don't tell me he is great. He was terrible last year. Dropped a ton of easy picks and only got promoted once Allen proved to be so bad he wasn't worth keeping around

Smith was demoted because he was being an immature punk.

i disagree, dude sucked in the preseason and simply lost his job to jason allen. The picks 6's that sean smith dropped last year still makes me ill til this day.

TS and Sean Smith in interviews have said it themselves, wasnt performance oriented was discipline issues.

i read some stuff from omar that said nolan carroll is getting a lot of run on the boundary and that smith has primarily been used of late in that nickle dime rover roll...
