Boys, we are in deep trouble if this is true(Sapp Vs Allen debate)

i read some stuff from omar that said nolan carroll is getting a lot of run on the boundary and that smith has primarily been used of late in that nickle dime rover roll...

Excuse my ignorance, but Nickle Dime Rover roll means he is playing deep middle and able to roam side to side right? Didn't they start using him in that roll at the end of last year or was playing that role for us?

I can't say much regarding sapps coverage as it was average (fine for a backup, which he was) but some of you do seem to have forgotten the outside pressure he could provide when used as a blitzer

they lined him up over te's where he was pretty effective i might add they used him on the boundary and inside over the slot on occasions (which i'm not a fan of) and in certain pass d packages he rolled back to a safety like position responsible for a certain area...

his versatility is a huge contributor there's no doubt about that...but on the boundary he must be protected

and yes he started playin that rover when he returned from his benching...after we got rid of jason allen that scrub

i really wish nolan carroll would step up and take sean smiths spot.

nolan needs time and reps...but the tools are absolutely there...high end tools

sounds like this jimmy wilson guy may be able to play the rover roll also...that smith played so well last year...only thing i didn't like about smith back at safety in that roll was if it was a downhill run and smith was supposed to come up and make the tackle at the 2nd level he just kinda half assed a diving attempt with his shoulder...you could tell he had no interest...but smiths never gonna be a physical force...just not who he is...i don't like it but i have to accept it

I'm not worried at all. We have a lot of unproven young players on our roster that need an opportunity. Allen is done. We should cut him and give the roster spot to someone who can get on the field.

if the dfront provides pressure like we hope they will we should be alright at cb...provided we don't lose vontae to injury...he goes down #1 wrs are gonna do a lot of damage

and whoever said sapp is a very effective blitzer is spot on...dudes a physical force off the edge as a blitzer from the slot...we just didn't send him much...you can get away with a benny sapp in a pinch on the boundary provided he has an elite pass rush in front of him like the one he had in minnesota...otherwise he'll get destroyed...nickle is where he should be...

i'm really hoping to see some of that hesitation i saw in carrolls game not there this year when i get to see the preseason games and key him...i'm gonna key him jimmy wilson and reshad jones looking forward to it

Bang on here Hoops. I really interested in watching the young secondary guys.

I think Culver could be in trouble if the Fins decide to stick with Allen/Sapp. They could run 5 CB's (Davis, Smith, Allen, Sapp, Carroll); 3 safeties (Bell, Jones, Clemmons) . . . and the battle for the last spot or 2 would be between Ness, Culver and Wilson. I think this Wilson kid has probably earned a spot with his play, but it is still early. Ness offers more flexibility than Culver . . . but Culver has more experience. I dunno . . . it is going to be fun, and I hope we see glimpses of a true ballhawk develop in the preseason.

Dont blame that on Smith blame that on the idiots that put him in the slot. Who the hell thinks its a good idea to put a 6'4 lanky DB in the slot to cover smaller, quicker & Shiftier WR's. Simply stupid.

Phillidelphia may use Asomaghua in the slot in nickel situations. Boundry otherwise.

i would say that will allen nate ness and culver are all on the cut block...ness and culver if this jimmy wilson kid is legit are in big trouble...will allen injury and age...benny sapp til they find an upgrade i think sticks...but we'll see

Jimmy Wilson was moved back to corner for some reason, maybe because of Allen's knee issues and Sapp not being able to get the job done.

Remember when everyone was whining about Sparano putting Will Allen on IR last year and Will Allen saying he was ready to go and he didn't know why they put him on IR...it's a year later and Allen can't even get through a week of practice without knee issues. So much for that.

Wow they moved him back? Guess they figure he wasn't going to win a job at FS this year and Bell was sticking at SS . . . they know he can play safety, they probably feel he'll see more time as a CB this year. I know this kid is gonna be active on gamedays . . . I wanna see him on special teams.
