Now that the draft is over, my thought was that Hickey did exactly what GMs in his position would have done. Because the need was so glaring and very urgent he reached. Teams reach all the time, they were saying the same thing about Chicago last year regarding Kyle Long and we all saw how that turned out. To me drafting is very easy, identify your need, pick your best option and pick him. Don't get fancy, Keep it simple.

Another thing Hickey did that I really liked is the "closure", he iced the cake with the Billy Turner pick. One thing i have always blamed Jeff Ireland for. Its called making your weakness your strength. He did the same with the Jarvis Landry pick. That was great pick!

Guess what? my co-worker, a Detroit Lions fan not happy with the draft asked me at work on Saturday if there were any good LBs left for their team to pick. I suggested Jordan Tripp. Two hours later that pick made my entire day. I became famous for one minute, phuck Mel phuckin Kiper!

Anyways, don't sleep on some of these UDFA signees. Outside of Anthony Johnson, I really like Paul Lankford's son, he is a burner. Hope he could burn DBs the way his daddy used to get burnt, LOL!!!

Stop the quibbling and enjoy your team! Have a great week y'all....

I am not so sure we reached in the 1st round. He graded out as the best RT in the draft and we took him. Part of me thinks the Cardinals would have grabbed him, they probably had that trade in place but only if their guy was gone.

I'm from illinois and watched a bunch of games, and I really hate Lankfords build. I'm not sure of his specs but he looks very thinly built. Overall though, I like this post.

Thank You

Thank you for a positive post amongst many nay-sayers about our pick at #19. I agree with you, if he was our highest graded OT, which was our #1 position of need, then we should (and did) have grabbed James. As for the people saying "we should have traded down", Miami took much of the clock before making the pick, most likely doing there due diligence listening to offers. In the end, however, I am sure Hickey made the move he thought was best for the team.

Being from Detroit I can tell you how frustrated Lions fans were that they pretty much ignored (DB) there #1 position of need. We, on the other hand, did a great job of getting value in positions of need. I am proud to be a Dolphins fan and (cliche) only time will tell if our picks will "stand the test of time".

GO PHINS,

David

Interesting that with all of the "small school" draft picks, most of the UDFA's come from big ones

He does have a weird build but he does it all, punting, kick returns, punt returns, deep threat, plus he was leading the Big 10 in receiving before he broke his shoulder. I really like him and Gator Hoskin because they can score in a multiple ways.

Nice!

Would be an awesome story if RYAN LANKFORD could make the team!

Hope his injury doesn't hold him back.

Its all risk vs reward and in this case losing out on the guy to fill the biggest need is not worth a 3rd or 4th rounder. Who knows if he would have made it to us if we dropped down but i like the move.

I got to thinking about that today also. Somebody posted on here that Hickey drafts "small school" prospects because they have a chip on their shoulder with something to prove. Maybe he is doing the same thing with "big school" prospects that did not get selected in he draft?
