Br: Miami building towards new west coast offense

Who cares if we are rebuilding this year. It feels like we have been rebuilding for the past decade, maybe now we have competent coaches who help the GM make competent decisions, his last 2 drafts seem like hits. We should be average to just about above average, as long as the defense plays well and the O improves, we should be looking real good for 2013

That word rebuilding doesnt ring true to me. We are retooling in a large sense.

Who will be replaced on defense that isnt already replaced? Vernon replaces Taylor and Randall replaces Merling. Odrick has shown to replace Langford with better pass rush upside.

DB's are still the same basically but second and third year guys should step up in play. Lb's are being moved for new defensive scheme. I'm not seeing rebuilding there.

On Offense, we lost Marshall. If you consider him to be a huge loss, this is the reason we are being called rebuilders. What we actually did is just draft our new team on offense. Martin fills gaping hole at RT and gives us security there, not exactly rebuilding stuff there. It was instant upgrade.

RB's are now loaded. Any shorfall of Daniel Thomas has now been upgraded with Miller. The only clear sign of rebuilding is at the WR position IMO.

I dont buy the rebuilding notion. If you look at our new scheme (up-tempo, hurry up, no-huddle) that is being talked about, those are new things that will help this team win this year if executed well on consistent basis.

Conclusion: we are not rebuilding but retooling with better talent in the draft.

I think after this year is when our team is going to be gutted with a lot of veterans contracts being up after this season, and the drafting of Egnew and Miller I feel are two examples of getting players to replace Bush and Fasano by next season if not sooner. The key contracts that are ending that we would have nobody currently on the roster to take over are Starks, Long, Hartline and Cam Wake. Sean Smith is on the bubble and I think Bush and Fasono are all but gone after this season. The one that I feel has the most chance to be released before this season starts would be Fasano only if they feel they have an adequate replacement in either Egnew or Clay. I think if Hartline looks good in the west coast offense than I think they will try to extend him in the middle of this season. I think Long will be resigned after this season and I truly think they are going to force Wake to play out his contract than hang the franchise tag on him next season if they can't come to a long term agreement. Starks is the one that I have a question mark on because they may feel they can draft a cheaper replacement than resign him. This doesn't include many other veterans but I feel these are the key players the the the FO needs to make a decision on.

I am not sure I see it this way either. Philbin has clearly said that the philosophy is to get good players in the draft and then keep those players to build the family atmosphere. If Fasano proves his worth and flourishes in the system and is not in trouble, I dont think Philbin would get rid of him particularly if since he is a TE guy.

Why would people want to get rid of reggie bush? This is unreal to me. They guy is our playmaker! Miller doesnt replace Bush IMO. Miller will be returning kicks and being backup. If Bush has another big year like last year except better, Philbin will pay the man some money. RB's are deals that can be worked no problem. Reggie Bush is more athletic than most anyone in our league.

Jake Long. Its been said he is going nowhere and we supposedly will be under the cap by 50 mil. We will pay those great players what they are worth.
Wake will also get his pay IMO when the time is right. It may happen in August or before. We just have to get past this offseason.

Dansby is the only one I see who could be gone but if he has another good season, I think he stays.

But this team will not be buying FA as much any more IMO. We will build through the draft.

good to at least and at last be headed in a specific direction rather than going in circles.

I'm not saying I want Bush gone but I'm approaching this as a business decision and not personal. Running backs more than any position in the nfl do not get resigned, and Lamar if he can improve blocking after a year under his belt would be a cheap replacement for Bush. Good speed but bigger body. I think when it comes to Wake, were looking at a similar situation as Osi in NY where they are going have the ability to franchise him if he's asking for too much. Remember he will be 31 years old by the time next season rolls around. I also think Long will be here for another 4 or 5 years at least but there could be a scenario where they see Martin as a cheaper answer if he plays good this season and they feel there won't be much drop off of play with a combination of the west coast offense we will now run with a mobile qb. See YBell if you believe everything you hear that comes out of the Dolphins mouth. Dansby's contract isn't even up next year and just curious where will we be coming up with the money this season to pay Wake without cutting any of these players that you think were keeping? Right now the measuring stick to resign Wake will be similar to Mario Williams contract at 6 years 96 mill however since he'll be 5 years older than Williams it could be less I would expect. If they franchise him next year and pay him 11 mill then he's basically looking at 1 last contract left at 32 years old in 2014 and we could prob get him for more like Jon Abraham money of 8 mill per year for say 4 years. You do realize signing Bush, Wake and Long to big contracts would put us at about 20 million of cap space left, just like we were coming into this season. Look at it through the Front Office's eyes, if you can get cheaper younger replacements for some of these players contracts that are up next season that would allow you to improve other areas of the team than you do it. Just as you said, we are building through the draft.
