Some people have us drafting Branch with 9. While some might disagree with that he just might be the BPA. I'm a big fan of our 4-3/3-4 hybrid defense that we run but the thought of these two monsters in the middle is making me think otherwise. Makes me think of the Gardener/Bowens days and what Jacksonville has now with Stroud/Henderson. I mean two 6'6" 330 DT's with crazy speed for their size nobody would be able to run up the middle. Just a thought.

Not to mention subing in Evans and Rod Wright.

now that sabans not here, we may completely switch to a real 3-4. that would mean branch isnt a good pick. Capers MAY (Im only saying may) want to run a real 3-4 in miami.

The only thing stopping him is jason taylor. Because taking Jason off the dline full-time would just be a stupid move altogether.

I think moving to a true 3-4 would make Branch even more attractive than he already is. We need a huge mauler up front to eat up blockers with Traylor retiring as it is, moving to 3 down linemen full-time would make that need even more apparent.

I think Branch is a very good pick for the 3-4. I know some people have said he's not strong enough but his size alone would help out at nose tackle. If you tell me he's too tall for nose tackle, take a look at Ngata this year. He helped that Defense in Baltimore this year unmeasurably. That big body takes up space and lets Zach do what he does best, run and tackle.

I think that one of the reasons that the hybrid 3-4 worked so well was because defenses never knew exactly what we were throwing at them. I think Dom will still keep the same system intact next year. It allows us to easily switch between a 3-4 and 4-3. Even taking JT out of the pictures we do not have the LBs for a normal 3-4 defense. We would need 2 more starting caliber LBs and herds of backup LBs. We will not be able to fill the stables that quickly. I like the fact that we alternate schemes alot.

I don't know why people say that Alan Branch wouldn't make a good NT in the 3-4 the guy is 6'6 and weighs in at 331 that is plenty big to play NT in the 3-4 no matter what some people say about his strength.

Actually its the complete opposite. Taylor said that he wouldnt like to move full-time to DE. He says he likes the 3-4 OLB better. Since the 3-4 OLB rushes the QB but from the standing position...making the opposing offense..."not sure" what we are doing.

This is why getting another rushing OLB to play opposite Taylor would create an even more devastating defense than the one we had last year.

I don't really think teams will tremble at the sight of Manny Wright bro...he's maybe sixth or seventh on our depth chart, if he is even considered a Dolphin at all.

He wouldn't be with a better coach. Manny Wright is a first round talent and several teams wanted him in the supplemental draft. He's huge, and quite quick for a guy his size. If he can be motivated, he can be a great DT.

I personally think getting Manny Wright in to playing shape should be one of Capers Top priorities as a the Defensive Coordinater now.

Because NTs are usually shorter. It gives them better leverage. Your prototypical NT is 6-1 to 6-3 and around 320-330

6-6 guys are usually DE's or DT's, but not NTs. :cooldude:

I dont think motivation was Manny Wright's problem. It was the "too strict", "treat you like a little kid", and "im the dictator" Saban that was Manny's problem.

Carter stated it the other day. And so did Manny's father, last week.

Manny Wright will be one of our starters...or at least in the rotation at DT.

Well, he DID gain too much weight over the offseason last year. But i like the kid, and i agree with you that he definitly will work his way into the rotation.

Well will a Manny Wright(6-6 330), Fred Evans(6-4 320), Alan Branch (6-6 330) 3-4 line work or is that too big?

You are right that being shorter can be an advantage to some nose tackles. However I don't think it should be a deciding factor. The goal of the nose tackle is to simply take up space and clog gaps, which I doubt would be a problem for someone of Branch's measurements. I would be stunned if he were to fall to us at this point, but if he does I would be sprinting to that podium.

What do you mean Manny? You don't mean that cry baby quitter from USC do you? Or is their someone else?! I mean that guy can't even go back in the locker room, he has no respect from his coaches or teammates? What are you talking about?
