Just finished up listening to Leigh Steinberg on "The Huddle" radio program on ESPN with John Clayton and Sean Salisbury. Obviously the topic: Ricky Williams. Interesting interview. Basically Leigh Steinberg pointed out that Ricky has always loved football. He said that Ricky has been battling two sides of himself. One side loved football, the other side was searching for higher meaning and eventually that second side won out on the eve of training camp.

Leigh Steinberg was asked if he had any problems with the way the situation played out and he answered honestly. He was against the timing, mentioning how it's just really bad from a player perspective and from a business perspective also noting that Ricky underestimated the devastation his retirement would cause the franchise. Furthermore he said he was against the drug aspect of it noting that all of his clients are preached to time and time again of how important it is for them to be responsible, for they are role models.

As far as Ricky's health is concerned, Leigh basically said the man knows his body better than most people, especially after his hollistic studies. He said that having been thru that hollistic program, there's no going back to drugs or alcohol because hollistic programs absolutely forbid it, no tolerance whatsoever. When asked to step aside and look at the Ricky situation and really gauge how long Ricky might be around, Leigh said that it's up in the air at the moment based on one thing - how this year goes. If he likes this year, he could very well run up into the age of 33. He was pretty adamant Ricky could play that long, it all just depends.

When asked about Nick Saban and Wayne Huizenga, he pretty much only spoke about Nick. He went on to say that Nick was in contact with Ricky right smack after the Orange Bowl and that Ricky likes the guy, they seem to have a bond that he never had with Wanny (obviously).

This was the most indepth Ricky report I have read, seen, or heard in a while. Very informative.

Makes you wonder though. Ricky's obviously got two sides to him constantly trying to run his life. How long will they remain so unbalanced?

P.S. He also was asked what Ricky needs to do when returning to the Dolphins in order to make sure everything is ago. One specific point I was listening for was his approach with his teammates and the fans. Leigh mentioned that Ricky is a smart man, that he knows he's going to have to approach the situation, his teammates especially..........basically inciting that it's inevitable and Ricky is going to address it.

P.S.2. Steingberg mentioned that Ricky will more than likely be playing in the high 220's ...........saying that it will be amazing to see how quick Ricky could be playing at that weight.

I wouldnt hold my breath.Unless the Dolphins are willing to assign a babysitter to him during the season or offseason he will eventually fall back to the other Ricky in his schizo state. And his holistic training will fade with time.

Leigh Steinberg doesn't come off as half the prick Rosenhaus is.

Whats funny is listening to him I just can't picture the supposed "Super Agent" he's known to be. Sounds very affirable.

See my concern is that the all-around grind of life in the NFL will again test him harder than he realizes.

PS2 haha lol, anyway he's almost at his playing weight already I just hope he can get his speed and quickness back.

Good point but if he's really into yoga and hollistic medicine and all that, I think he could do it. Eddie George has been doing yoga for years, and I refuse to believe anyone has taken a harder pounding than him in a lifetime. Yoga might really help Ricky out, who knows?

Think about this though, the game of professional football is an antithesis to yoga and hollistic studies which are all about peace, serenity, tranquility, non-aggressive behavior. And Steinberg has now confirmed that there's always two sides to Ricky battling for the direction his life will go in. I want to stop short of saying bi-polar, but it had that sort of scent to it when Steinberg began explaining what actually happened last year.

Leigh has put a nice spin on the PR front, now lets see where Ricky is with his sincerity to the players, and the team! Also let's see if he can keep it together, and keep his head on straight, and how he deals with getting through the season. I hope this doesn't happen, however are there odds in Vegas on who will crack first Ricky or Boston?

First off, Boston will not crack..........his problem has nothing to do with his psyche. Well, at least not from a bailing out on the team to find higher meaning standpoint, but we all know he's previously had an obsession with his body. So you're not going to find David Boston in a position like Ricky was in. The concern with Boston is strictly a health thing.

what is that "standpoint" "relative to"?

It's relative to a comment made in this thread. The guy mentioned Vegas putting out a line on who will crack first - Ricky or Boston.........which I found to be a bad crack and terrible comparison. Boston's always played and has always wanted to play - he's just also had an obsession with his body at the same time.

Boston is not only is health but his head as well. You need to look back to the Charger days, the incident at the airport when he roughed up the old man. Boston is not as stable as you might think.
