According to Pro Football Focus, Miami Dolphins left tackle Branden Albert grades out as the top offensive tackle in football through the first two weeks of the 2014 season.
Considering he signed a contract this summer for $26 million guaranteed, that shouldn’t come as a major surprise. He’s the NFL’s second highest paid left tackle by guaranteed dollars.
What is stunning is just how high Miami’s other offensive tackle ranks. Ja’Wuan James, a rookie starter at right tackle, ranks sixth overall in the same ranking. Sure it’s a small sample, but Miami has faced two pretty stout defensive lines thus far — the Patriots in Week 1 and Bills in Week 2.
Once Mike Pouncey returns from injury, this group figures to be a sizable strength, coming a long way since holding the squad back with their pathetic play last season.

1. Branden Albert, LT (MIA) +7.1

So far playing up to the huge contract he signed to come over from the Chiefs.

2. Derek Newton, RT (HST) +6.5

Almost written off (at least by me). Thankfully the Texans were more patient.

3. Joe Barksdale, RT (STL) +4.8

Carrying on from where he left off last year with a super start to 2014.

4. Zach Strief, RT (N0) +4.7

The Saints Mr Reliable remains a stalwart at right tackle for the team.

5. King Dunlap, LT (SD) +4.4

Still more of a run blocker but holds his own in pass pro, too.

6. Ja’Wuan James, RT (MIA) +4.1

Is that nervous looks I see from the draftniks who pronounced him over-drafted?

7. Jason Peters, LT (PHI) +3.6

A left tackle who continues to impress on every down regardless of what the playcall is.

8. Jermon Bushrod, LT (CHI) +3.5

More than held his own against both the Bills and 49ers

9. Joe Thomas, LT (CLV) +3.3

So what else is new? The most consistent pass protector in the game.

10. Andre Smith Jr, RT (CIN) +3.7

His bad old early years seem a long way behind us now.

If we could sure up the guards when Pouncey comes back I like where this line is at. I say Satele would be better at either LG or RG than Smith or Colledge. Would love to see the line look like Albert, Turner, Pouncey, Satele, James.

Thumbs up to Brandon, exactly what we needed. Problem solved.

I do think they've played well but not having really keyed on the tackles from 31 other teams it's really hard for me to argue one way or another how they stack up.

Where did Jake Long land?

Jake Long landed on his ass and flopped around like a fish while watching Sam Bradford get his knee crushed again.

Weird... Earlier, someone posted that Tannehill was rated as one of the best QBs through the first 2 games, and the general concensous was that PFF was a joke and that Tannehill will never amount to anything, and apparently Matt Moore should be starting. But in this scenario, it just proves that Albert was a great signing

So....? PFF rankings are thrust worthy when they involve a player we like or...? no? how does that work?

I don't trust their player ratings within a two game sample size, period.

That said, if we're rating how godawful and useless PFF grading is on a scale of 1 to 10, the offensive line grades are probably like a 6 and the QB grades are like a 37.

After two games it doesn't prove anything expect the two new tackles are more than holding their own so far.

I think that's positive don't you guys ?

We got lots of problems but so far tackle ain't one of them.
Truthfully I don't trust any of the ratings but it's a positive article so i posted it.
After last game I need something encouraging.

I think PFF is a joke, but B. Albert was a great pick up. I said it during the 2013 draft where rumors floated about and said during the free agency this year. Great pick up.

What I heard:

I think PFF is a joke, but since it fits my agenda here...

Other then that holding call week 1 i havent seen James do a thing wrong, never get pressured from the outside and is a good run blocker to boot.

If Billy Turner pans out, the OL could actually end up being a strength of this team going forward...imagine that
