With this talk of the Dolphins 'auctioning' off the pick at a sever discount to last years pick I am not sure the top tier players would bite. Would we call someone like Albert and he would take that? He would make way more money as the #1 pick with that discount than he would being drafted later in the round and he would be the first ever guard taken #1 as far as I know. That is major prestige factor there.

I actually posed this same question in this thread yesterday:

He has moved up dramatically on many boards, I've seen him go as high as 5 on a reputable board, Scouts Inc. (ESPN), so is it such a stretch?

What if none of the top 4 take our deal, would the tuna consider Branden Albert at #1 overall if he takes the lower contract?

I know this is doubtful, perhaps crazy, unlikely, whatever you want to call it, but it wouldn't be the first time somebody shot up the draft boards late, and in light of Parcells desire to get a deal done on the cheap, is it impossible?

he is the best OL in the draft. THE best GUARD for sure, and im sure if he played OT, he'd be one of the best. having him on the OL would give us an absolute mauler....good running lanes for Ronnie

You DO NOT take a guard number one overall under ANY circumstances.

Hes absolutely built more to play tackle than guard, and he has in fact played tackle some.

Yes...Two games...wow!

I'm really surprised Pete that your not higher on Branden Albert, your man crush on Jake Long aside, which I understand, I like Jake Long too, but that doesn't stop me from seeing how good Branden Albert is.

I TVO'ed 4 or 5 of his games last season and watched and rewatched them some, he is an excellent lineman, totally built to play tackle. He can really pull nicely and he pancakes his opponents.

I won't argue that Jake is #1, but if the contract situation is going to prevail in this 1st pick, I'd be happy to see Branden Albert here.

How many times have we scratched our heads on draft day after someone picked, only to hear the commentators on tv say, "Well, this guy was really moving up the draft boards of a lot of teams as recently as two days ago. We weren't sure he'd get this high, but obviously [fill in the blank] thinks so. I think it's a good pick."

Like many of us here, I wonder what Parcells is really up to. Not like him to broadcast his intentions by negotiating with only one player.

I expect to be surprised on draft day.

Not that it really matters...whats one more game...but it was two. He played against Pitt and Middle Tenn St as a tackle.

Your right, in 2007 he only played twice as a left tackle, but guess what, 0 sacks in those two games.

And, he is only a junior.
