I basically know nothing of Brandon Doughty but beginning to see some very positive responses to him in camp. (though pretty much all camp fodder has been positive with little to no criticisms )

Gase says that Doughty has this knack for finding the open guy and making completions. For me 3 big qualities in a QB, accuracy, pocket awareness and being able to see the field and make proper reads. Seems that he is a natural in the reads dept. and thats a huge quality to have in order to be successful, which all the great ones had.

Marino is “in every meeting” with the team’s quarterbacks and has been hands-on with Doughty. (interesting)

“He’s been telling me I need to align to my throws, not fall off my throws,” Doughty said. “I’m going to work on that the next five weeks...

Interested to hear any legitimate insight into the pros and cons and camp info Yous guys may have on Doughty. 5 years of RT and still an unknown no matter what the circumstances hasn't really given me any more assurance besides the hope of a new scheme adding some improvement.
Be nice to know there might be an actual backup plan if the RT experiment finally ends up in the dumps which is a possibility...

Doughty is from Miami and I think he went to school with Marinos son or something. I hear he is no real threat to Tannehill they just brought him in because Marino knows how family.

Well like you said at this point most all the news is positive. I wont allow myself to get too carried away with anything yet, including Grant etc until we get to see them oursleves in pads and game situations.

We have seen before players look good or decent in preseason but it doesnt always translate when the regular season starts.

Also remember from a QB standpoint, once other teams see what your strenghts are or what you like to do, they try and take that away, another reason why it is hard to play QB at a high level for years like Marino accomplished.

"I liked him a lot better this year and he really knows how to run that offense but there was a play against North Texas where he scrambled out of the pocket and had a chance to dive in for a touchdown but slid at the 1-yard line rather than take the hit and make the play. That's not good enough." -- NFC Southeast area consultant

Bottom Line

There are several games where Doughty plays with confidence, great accuracy and a winning understanding of his offense. However, when the heat is on he shows a lack of poise that can affect his footwork and touch. Doughty is missing an NFL arm or plus athleticism, but his production and ability to get through his progressions will get him a shot to prove the "system quarterback" label wrong.

There are encouraging reports. It would be nice to 'hit' on a starting QB, but so far all fans have are 'encouraging reports.' If he impresses through PS, THEN I'll be impressed.

True Shorts and Pads are two completely different worlds. But Gases surprise at his instincts to find the open guy is one quality that if there is a huge plus and can be special and not easily taught.

If I'm not mistaken I think I heard that he's had 68% comp. in 2014 and 72% in 2015 with 48 Tds and 9 int. but some say he doesn't have the NFL arm....
49 tds and 10 int in 2014 ..well he must have been doing something right....

Accuracy problems if true are the deal breaker, a good QB must have accuracy otherwise you start hearing about putting the right systems around them that usually means shutting down areas of the passing game that in my book you never want to have to do...The more systems you can work with the better the odds are for success. The great QB's have more ability to adapt to whatever the defense throws at him then your limited versions which we've experienced get overwhelmed and unable to have the ability to adjust to the next level....Accuracy and instincts are the most difficult things to teach.....JMO...

I watched a lot of film on him. I am no expert, but I did play QB in high school and am very familiar with the basics to look for. His platform sucks, it is all over the place and never the same. He had a lot of completions and TD in college, but A LOT of throws he made will not fly in the NFL and were padded in the wide open offense he ran. He threw a lot of throws back against the grain, which will turn out badly in the NFL 90% of the time. He is slow as molasses, running a lineman like 5.14 in the 40. Third string or PS player IMHO.

Came from a one-read offense. Lot of short throws and terrible down field accuracy. Here is game film against South Florida:

Interesting player. If its true about his footwork and overall "platform" not being good then that's something that could be changed and make a HUGE impact on his qb play. If he has a good brain for it and a good arm but just needs lots of footwork help he could be a great project.

His arm is average at best, his one really good attribute as discussed by Gase is he finds the open guy.

Unless there's some sort of crazy Arizona QB like injury situation, he will never sniff an NFL field.

If Daughty can hAndle the speed of the NFL I think he will be a solid backup. He's accurate, seems to play with a high iq, decent pocket skills, and he's shown he can truly lead an offense and run it perfectly.

He's going to have that Chad Pennington type awareness though because of his weak arm. Chad had great insticts, he could feel who Would be open, and knew instantly where the ball had to be, doughty will need to be able to do the same.

Sharp or damning criticisms of his mechanics are off base. And you don't have to take that just from me because I have that from a member of Dolphins personnel department. I disagree with a lot of what has been said about him here but most of it is subjective. You see it one way, I see it another. But if you are talking about his mechanics, from toes to finger tips, and the criticism is more than nuanced (e.g. "Sucks") then we're beyond subjective disagreement.

Are you being sarcastic or hopefully you are not serious.
I don't care if it was Steven Ross son, the Dolphins or any team would not waste a draft pick , even a 7th rounder, on someone
unless they saw some potential in them.
