Was this guy a good pick? Will he be better than Donnie Jones? Haven't heard much about him.

I saw he had a good avg at Michigan state but has anyone watched him play?

From what I heard, he'll need some mechanic works. But he has leg, and he does have DE/OLB type size, so I'm guessing he can tackle. if it worse comes to worse during a punt return.

Dont watch punters to much, But one thing I think he lacks over Jones right now is the ability to pin inside the 20.

Also I have heard things about him outkicking his coverage at times in School

At training camp he was having monstrous punts sending back Hakim and Booker when they were returning. However he was a little slow in his mechanics

One punt would go for 55 yards in the air, and have a ton of hang time, then the next one would go 38 with hardly any hang time! He was pretty inconsistant on the last Sunday practice but he does have mega potential.

The knock on him from what I have read is that it takes him too long to get punts off.

I'm from Michigan and have seen him play a few times. The thing that comes to mind is his inconsistency. Some he will really boom and the next few will be average. He was 1st team all big ten so they felt he was the best punter in the league. I think he was worth a shot.

Fields had a really nice yardage average his first year or two, but his coach told him he was outkicking his coverage. He ended up changing his mechanics a little which made him pretty inconsistent. I think he should be able to kick it as far as Donnie Jones, but Donnie was very good at pinning teams inside the 20. Hopefully Fields will be able to do likewise.

He has a monster leg, but b/c of his size seems to be a little slow in striding and getting the kick off and can be inconsistent. Another added bonus is the fact that he can kickoff. He has done that before in his career. By switching from Mare to Feeley, we lose a LOT on kickoffs. Last year, Mare had twice as many touchbacks as Feeley.
