Will he win the starting role for us? I've heard him described as a raw talent with potential, a guy with a strong leg and lack of control and consistancy. Do we go with Fields who we spent a pick on and hope his raw talent develops, or are we just checking him out and could end up going with Ryan Flynn who has a little bit of experience. The winner of the job will also most likely be the holder for Feely which could have some influence. Is there a competiton here or do you think Fields has it locked up?

He had a great year two years ago, but tried a new technique this year and it screwed him up. The only knock on him was he was a little slow getting the ball out hence the new technique. However he has a booming leg a la Reggie Roby.

I saw him at mini camp, biggest leg I've seen since Roby. He's our punter.

He'll win the starting job... Hell probably struggle at first with the speed of the pro game but will adjust to it and improve by the 4th or 5th game.

How does a punter struggle with the speed of the pro game

Catch and punt....not really that hard to adjust.

Timing. He may be used to a certain count between the snap and when he actually kicks it. His technique would be based on how much time he is used to. He probably has 2-3 seconds less in the NFL to get the punt off so will need to adjust his style to get it off faster.

The pass rush? A little more pressure than the college game don't ya think?

Eh I don't know that it takes any time to adjust to.

I've punted before on a team with a horrible offensive line (I was also the QB) and it wasn't a big deal at all.

Catch and kick....as long as he does it at the same speed he always has it won't be an issue.

Good God if he's taking two or three seconds to punt the ball what's he doing reading War and Peace back there?! :)

He will have less time at this level though, which was his biggest problem in college. His leg is no issue, how fast he gets the ball up is.

There is no way it will be 2-3 seconds less.

I've punted for horrible lines and I still had three seconds to get it off and did.

He may have to kick the ball faster, but there is absolutely no way at all it will take him 4-5 games into the season to do. At worst 2-3 preseason games.

Growing up as a kid, if someone told you all you had to do to earn millions is catch a football and kick... everyone would be punters.

Yet, there's only 32 in the NFL and most are average, not great.

There's a skill to every position. Each needs discipline, execution and precision.

How many games have you seen a blocker miss by inches?

That's not accident, it's execution. The margin of error is that close.

Eh... have you played in a pro game... or are you just very experienced for a 17 yr old?
